Personally, I like the looks of that one, so if you do get it, please write us up a review, OK?

I have seen serious endorsements of their top master grade classical, the HM88 but for some reason, the current endorsements are only in German - but there are German luthiers whose classicals have a more prestigious name, definitely..
Members userpatch Posted July 16, 2007 Author Members Posted July 16, 2007 Personally, I like the looks of that one The looks are very promising, but i have to order it online... in Germany if i want one, and that isn't very appealing to me. A while a go i played (very shortly) in a musicstore a few classical guitars in this price range, but i was a bit disappointed in the sound comparing to some cheaper models. For my ears there wasn't a big difference, but iam not a real classical player so maybe my ears aren't tuned enough for nylon string guitars................
Members Tony Burns Posted July 16, 2007 Members Posted July 16, 2007 They are not reguarded as decent instruments in the US , their was a flood of them in the late 60's -early 70's and they were of beginner quality , or what was commonly refered as Folk guitars - a decent guitar for a kid to learn on - i have heard they had higher end instruments in Europe but with very few ever making it to these shores ( North America ) not knowing more than that or ever seeing one of high end models ( not too many have in the US ) I cannot give you a fair appraisal of the instrument - It would be fair to say i would not order one on the internet without first playing one !

A girl I used to date's Dad brought a nice Hofner 12-string back from Germany...it was at least as nice as the Martin D12-28 I owned at the time, other than having only 12 frets clear of the body...big, robust tone! I recall they had a Hofner "folk" gut-string, too, but I can't recall if I ever played it, or heard anyone else play it.
Members garthman Posted July 17, 2007 Members Posted July 17, 2007 Nice looking guitar. Hofner is an old, well-established company and I would expect their instruments to be of good quality.
Members bbarkow Posted July 17, 2007 Members Posted July 17, 2007 I bought an inexpensive Hofner 12-string on Ebay. It sucked mightily. The worst problem was that the saddle was tilted 45 degrees in its slot. The slot was cut waaaay too wide, and the thick UST only took up half of the slot width. I contacted the seller and they ASSURED me that nothing was wrong with it since "they're all built that way". No thanks.
