Hi there,

I was just wondering what sort of acoustic (or possibly Acoustic/Electric) guitar Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional) is using on A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar?

I'm thinking its a Gibson, but I can't find any info

can you help me out?

I saw him back when "Places You Have Come To Fear The Most" came out. Back then (this is like 6 or 7 years now I guess), he was using all Gibson jumbos and maybe a dread I think. He used to use at least 3 or 4 different tunings for his songs so he had a bunch.

I would assume that on the recording he used a variety of guitars.

good luck.

I found a link, but it doesn't really say what he used in the studio, just what he owns...

Just for the record, how come you need to know? Is it because you're trying to emulate the sound or because you just want to know what guitars he uses? Because if you're trying to emulate the sound, there are many guitars that are out today that can get you a similar sound to what Chris has. Of course, this is not accounting for differences in his and your playing styles and stuff like that.

I'm really just curious, but the bright sound associated with his recordings like Again I Go Unnoticed and The Sharp Hint of New Tears is quite different than the bassy warm sound of my A+L, so i'm a little interested.

Hey! A fellow Albertan ! Dashboard Confessional is one of my favourite bands, so naturally I had to chime in.

From the MTV unplugged video:

Looks like Chris is using a J-185ec, but it has a different looking bridge from the newer models: http://www.gibson.com/Products/Gibson%20Acoustic%20Guitars/Gibson%20Acoustic%20Guitars/Modern%20Classics/Jumbos/J%2D185%20EC/

Hopes this sheds a little bit more light on the matter!

Its cool to see another Canadain on the forums, and even more a fellow Albertan!
