Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted August 6, 2007 Author Members Posted August 6, 2007 What guitar are you using there, OGP? Really dirty, down-home tone its got. Ellen Hey Ellen, Thanks for watching the videos. The guitar is an early 1970's solid cedar topped Yamaki AY270S "Folk" guitar. It sounds really nice for fingerpicked slide and is quite loud and responsive as you can hear from the videos. I have only had it since last Wednesday. Regards, OGP
Members guitarist21 Posted August 6, 2007 Members Posted August 6, 2007 Congrats on getting your hands on a great sounding guitar! Even through my little tinny speakers that guitar really sounded awesome with the slide. Ellen
Members guit30 Posted August 6, 2007 Members Posted August 6, 2007 OGP, You know what, it is fun to put stuff out on the net and to be able to share it, I have noticed you seem to be a bit concerned about being a star, unless you are being fececious(spellin) Share your music, enjoy it, let others enjoy it, i have seen so so many broken dreams by good artists trying to get popular on the internet. Really takes a lot more, like a manager, publicist and all points west You are down to earth, so I really do not think this applies to you, but just a general remark from someone who has 5 years experience has an internet country music journalist. The Net does not mean as much as a mag in the writing world. Same applies to music Keep it up, enjoy and God blessJim

I have played a few gigs in my time (also live appearances on Radio & TV) and have been around long enough to know about the "business"...I am only into music for fun. Now...I play mostly for free softdrinks at any of the local open mics or blues jams around town. It keeps me out of trouble. All I wanted to do was share my stuff...sorry if you got the wrong idea Regards & Peace, OGP

This board has become sort of a virtual hangout and I see this as a sort of way to get to know each other a little better, that's all.

This board has become sort of a virtual hangout and I see this as a sort of way to get to know each other a little better, that's all. Here her my friend! It's just all for fun for me. A very cool way not to feel alone and isolated as I did for so many years playing by myself and that is why I lost motivation to even play for about 16 years! The net reawakened my interest in playing and attempting to sing. It is lots of fun, a great way to meet other palyers and a great way to collaborate!
Members g6120 Posted August 6, 2007 Members Posted August 6, 2007 OK just watched both your videos on the Tube and they are great! 5 stars! The audio is scratchy/thin and could be better but it takes nothing away from the performance. Would be very very cool to hear you with a good video/microphone setup!
Members eflat Posted August 7, 2007 Members Posted August 7, 2007 liked the first vid, loved the second
Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted August 7, 2007 Author Members Posted August 7, 2007 Thanks for the comments from everyone. I am open to all comments be they positive or negative. This is my very first attempt at this whole YouTube thing and those videos were more of an experiment to see if I can figure out the basics. Now that I have...I will try and make better recordings. I know these ones are not the best in sound reproduction but for what I used I thought they turned out not too bad Thanks again OGP
Members hammergjh Posted August 7, 2007 Members Posted August 7, 2007 Now, that's what I call the blues.
Members guit30 Posted August 7, 2007 Members Posted August 7, 2007 OGD, That's what I figured, that you were using those terms jokingly, music can be a source of fun and peace though, can't itBlessingsJimPS- Great Slide
Members knockwood Posted August 10, 2007 Members Posted August 10, 2007 Dude, that was just ass-kickety good! I seriously enjoyed both tunes. Made me run and grab the slide... And then I very quickly remembered that I don't know how to use a slide, and all I could do was clumsily wing the slide up and down the strings and make some random twangy noises. Then I began to kind of hate you, which is where I am now. But it's really a positive, admiring kind of hate. Seriously, if you were playing in NYC I'd definitely be glad to go catch your gig. One thing I will say, and it only has to do with the recording, is that you seem to have a good voice and I wish I could hear it better. Thanks for posting that.

Thanks so much for the compliments but...I am just a blues guy who learned all this stuff from listening to, hanging out and seeing a lot of other blues guys over the years. Those are the real cats...the guys I learned from. Everyone has the capacity to learn slide...and really by simply tuning the guitar to "open G" and "winging" the slide up and down the neck is the best way to start learning it...eventually you will stop making random noises and make music Have fun and keep "winging" OGP
Members daklander Posted August 10, 2007 Members Posted August 10, 2007 OGP, SAWEET!Very nice slide work and nice tone, even on these laptop speakers. I'll get a chance tomorrow to have a listen on the main computer with good speakers.I agree about the vocals. They need to to be up.
