I had a D-41 for about a 8 months. One of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen, and never failed to get alot of wows whenever I brought it out. Flawlessly beautiful. It was my dream guitar, one I had always wanted. I never could bond with the way it sounded and played, so I sold it. The person that bought it thought that it was the best thing since sliced bread, so I guess it just goes to show that to each his own, and I would highly recommend you play before you pay.

Nice gits, both. The Special has aging toner, drop in belly bridge, a little more bling - and is a hundred and fifty bucks more. I did style 41 trim on my 12 string - that is about the limit of the bling I like.

D-41 Special also has the modified V neck instead of the low profile.

I love my D-41. I had a D-28 that sounded almost as good; I can't say whether the D-41's slightly greater volume and more balanced one is just the normal difference you'd expect among several different D-28's (or 41's, 42's, 45's) etc. or is actually due to better wood. But the biggest difference is the extra bling. I'd yearned for a D-45 since I first took up the guitar over 30 years ago (when I first saw Stephen Stills and Neil Young playing them), but settled on a D-41 since the extra D-45 bling is all on the back where you can't even see it.

To some the v neck on the D41 Special, vs. the low profile neck on the D41 can be a big deal. Theres also the fact of getting a Glieb style case with the Special, and the biggest difference, IMHO, is the Specials forward- shifted, scalloped braces,vs. the rear-shifted, scalloped braceing on the regular D41.

This feature, to my ear, pushes out more bass, which I like a big Martin Dred.

Dale.
