Members guit30 Posted September 1, 2007 Members Posted September 1, 2007 You guys know that I can't play alot because of my bad neck. I have just had one of those weeks. I went out for a walk and then came home and just got my guitar, what fun, it was in perfect tune, just knocked around a few loosely put together progressions, then played some single string, was real refreshing. Nothing like some quality time with your guitar. Best Jim
Members Cripes Posted September 1, 2007 Members Posted September 1, 2007 I can't imagine your condition. I say that because it sounds like there's some rarity between enjoyable playing sessions. Sometimes I do have to soak my hands in warm water to ease some pain - mileage mostly - but that's about it and it's nothing by comparison. So, though I can relate to your post I can also say that it is something I've been taking for granted. You make me appreciate the ability more.
Members Samilyn Posted September 1, 2007 Members Posted September 1, 2007 I'm really sorry that you can't play more because of your neck, but glad to hear you're able to pick it up now and then. It really is refreshing, isn't it? I can somewhat relate to what you must be going through. Following a bad animal bite and subsequent hand surgery, I once thought I'd never play again and for the first time in many years, I was guitar-less. Got the itch bad, so picked up a cheap 12-string on ebay that had the action from he**. But that thing was actually one of the best rehab things I've done for my hand. The awful action helped me regain most of my strength and flexibility to the point that I finally realized I could play without pain. In celebration of that, I recently invested in a new 12-string - a "low-end" Martin, and I wouldn't trade my guitar playing hours for anything. I work in a high-stress profession and my guitar is food for my soul. I'm much more at peace now, as I hope you are after you play.
Members DonK Posted September 1, 2007 Members Posted September 1, 2007 Jim, have you considered having surgery? I'm planning on having it eventually - I've already discussed it with my surgeon. I get a semi-annual MRI; the surgery isn't a matter of if, it's when.
Members babablowfish Posted September 1, 2007 Members Posted September 1, 2007 Glad to hear you were able to find a window of opportunity to play. It reminds me that we often don't appreciate what we have until we lose it. Take care.
Members Tony Burns Posted September 1, 2007 Members Posted September 1, 2007 about 9 years ago i was just recovering from my second back surgery , it was hard to play more than 10 minutes at a time - but those ten minutes made a big difference in my life --I know where your at - I pray for your speedy recovery ! Keep up the playing .
Members guitarist21 Posted September 1, 2007 Members Posted September 1, 2007 There really is nothing like playing the guitar after a long bout of not playing. I haven't played a guitar in almost twenty-four hours because I'm en route to Boston, which is VERY FAR from Chicago! Ellen
Members lauren Posted September 1, 2007 Members Posted September 1, 2007 an osteopath? I go regularly as i have curvature of the spine and it saves my life. So precious to play.
Members guit30 Posted September 1, 2007 Author Members Posted September 1, 2007 Donk, The last neuro surgeon consult I had said that surgery would be unsafe because of the arthritis and degenerative changes, so I have kept going by pain management and stretches, traction Jim PS - Thanks to all of you!!!
