Members shnoogumz Posted September 2, 2007 Members Posted September 2, 2007 I was bored yesterday, so I did a cover of one of their older songs. I know I screwed up a bit on the high parts, but whenevr I start rerecording I tend to become a perfectionist... and as always, feedback/constructive criticism is always appreciated
Members MattSkibaIsGOD Posted September 3, 2007 Members Posted September 3, 2007 aside from the high parts where you deviate a little bit, this was very nice. Your voice is nice and smooth and your guitar playing is on the money. Good job.
Members shnoogumz Posted September 3, 2007 Author Members Posted September 3, 2007 thanks I plan on rerecording this (with high parts properly done, of course) on a 12 string when I get one. I expect it to sound a bajillion times better then
Members davemal Posted September 3, 2007 Members Posted September 3, 2007 Can I request a version of 'Walking with a Ghost' please??? Great song.

Can you slip down a fret? You have a very nice voice at the current pitch but I'd bet you could swing a half-step down and get a better shot at the high vocals. Nice work.

I just tried the capo on the second fret, and it sounds fine. I shall do that next time
Members MattSkibaIsGOD Posted September 3, 2007 Members Posted September 3, 2007 Walking With A Ghost nice job. I think this is the best one you've posted yet.
Members shnoogumz Posted September 3, 2007 Author Members Posted September 3, 2007 nice job. I think this is the best one you've posted yet. why thank you... I think that was the first time i played that song in a about a year
Members eor Posted September 3, 2007 Members Posted September 3, 2007 it was not lesbian enough for eor's tastes love, eor but i did like it

Members Cripes Posted September 3, 2007 Members Posted September 3, 2007 I'll try harder next time There's an unspoken rule you should know about HCAG schnoogumz. Where tact is concerned, there are no rules. But, we do police and correct ourselves to stay within acceptable social boundaries. Internationally and cross-culturally speaking, we do pretty well on averages as we learn the protocols along the way. Except Eor, of course Just kidding my friend. The song is sweet. You have a very demure way of delivering the lyrics. I think you could give them a bit more punch. I say that without ever having heard the original artist's rendition. Still, there could be a bit more diaphragm in your delivery. Nice, though.
Members eor Posted September 3, 2007 Members Posted September 3, 2007 tact + eor = someone that is not eor when i heard the song, it stuck eor as something he had heard before, which is the sign of either a really great song, or a song i've heard before. so i pawed through different versions (album version, white stripes version, etc) on you tube and decided i liked their acoustic version best. aside from yours. your voice is sweeter, agrees eor, if a little more "conventional" (for lack of a better term). love, eor but seriously, clam it up some. it is better to be a fur trapper.
Members beyondNovember Posted September 4, 2007 Members Posted September 4, 2007 Your version of Walking With A Ghost is amazing! Nice to see another Tegan and Sara fan. Great job!
Members kwakatak Posted September 4, 2007 Members Posted September 4, 2007 I loved your take on City Girl. You've got a great voice for that type of song. As for WWAG, the song just didn't speak to me quite as much. I can't put my finger on why that was, though. I must admit that I've never heard the original versions nor have I even heard of the original artist themselves. The closest thing I can recall in my experience is The Pixies. I must be getting old.
Members shnoogumz Posted September 4, 2007 Author Members Posted September 4, 2007 I think the problem with Walking With A Ghost is that it doesn't speak to me as much as some of their other songs do, so I don't put as much emotion into it and for anyone who's interested, here are the original versions on City Girl/WWAG City Girl (there's about 3 minutes of talking beforehand, but I think it's worth listening to anyway): WWAG:

Members eor Posted September 5, 2007 Members Posted September 5, 2007 i don't think the webcam is doing you any favors- you need something a little better to capture your shnoogie nuances. it sounds like you're in a house with other people and you don't want them to hear. like the last song more better than the first. is more you, says me. do like it as a solo guitar arrangement. and i like the disintegration era cure drums on the live version. eor has been inspired to investigate further. love, eor ps- please advise further pss- more clam
Members shnoogumz Posted September 5, 2007 Author Members Posted September 5, 2007 I'm actually using my (incredibly {censored}ty) digital camera... I know the view is crap, but after about a million takes trying to get the right shot without anyone actually holding it (I don't think anybody would be patient enough to film me in all my many takes), I gave up. and my parents get mad when I play too loud, so I have to try and be quiet most of the time
