Members conway Posted September 21, 2007 Members Posted September 21, 2007 I just got it back fron Jim at Noll Guitars. He installed the medium jumbo frets, made and set in a bone saddle and replaced the white plastic pins with ebony. What a difference it made. Much easier to play and it sounds great of course. I had him install Elexer nanoweb 11's. I like the nanowebs but not on this guitar. They seem to be boomy, a bit weak in the mid and treble. I re-installed the white palstic pins and that did help... "Keep that in mind".However, I want to try a different string. Any suggestion for my pretty little Om? I want a strong sounding string in the mids and treble that's easy to hammer and bend.
Members drnihili Posted September 21, 2007 Members Posted September 21, 2007 I'm no expert, but I keep hoping someone who knows what they're talking about will try a set of GHS Infinity and tell me what they think.
Members conway Posted September 21, 2007 Author Members Posted September 21, 2007 So you have used them and like them? Are they strong in the mid and treble? Are they slinky Like Boomers?
Members drnihili Posted September 21, 2007 Members Posted September 21, 2007 I've used them and like them quite a lot. But I don't have enough experience to really give you a good statement about whether they're strong in the mid and treble. They don't feel slinky to me, but they do seem to be very responsive to differences in how one plays them.
Members guitarist21 Posted September 21, 2007 Members Posted September 21, 2007 Do they have to be coated? If yes, I would recommend D'Addario EXPs. If no, check out Martin Phosphor Bronze. BTW did he end up doing anything to the neck? I would be interested to know how that went. Ellen
Members conway Posted September 21, 2007 Author Members Posted September 21, 2007 No, I decided I like it the way it is. He did a great job.
Members conway Posted September 21, 2007 Author Members Posted September 21, 2007 Coating not a must ,but I don't like srtings that zip when you slide on them...
Members kwakatak Posted September 22, 2007 Members Posted September 22, 2007 Coating not a must ,but I don't like srtings that zip when you slide on them... That rules out the Martin SP's then. They're downright squeaky for the first few days.
