Does anyone have experience with a Martin DC-16GTE acoustic/electric? I am looking into one of these and wanted to hear some reviews. I am also curious how the Martin a/e's sound unplugged versus a comparable Taylor. I checked out a couple of Taylor dreadnought a/e's this past weekend and was not impressed with their sound unplugged. I play a little bluegrass and there's not always an amp to plug into at jams. I want a guitar with strong lows and mids and I know Martin's are known for louder bass then Taylors.

This is the GTE standard version, not the next generation Premium.

Thanks,

R

now I can't comment on the C or E...or plain GT for that matter...

...but I have a Martin D-16RGT that I absolutely love. I couldn't really tell a difference tone-wise between it and a Martin D-28. Maybe my ears just suck.

btw, which Taylors did you try?

They are different, but not tottally seperate.

IMHO most Martins look almost exactly alike to each other.

But, I am always drawn to the DC-16's visually

and I'm not sure if that biases my fondness for their sound

or if I just enjoy playing them more

maybe that makes them sound better than most Martins.

And they just seem to be a great value for the money.

They just speak to me on several levels.

I think you need to look at a few more Martins. ;) Here are mine:

I had a DC-16E Premium a couple of years ago; it's the full gloss Sapele version of the guitar you're looking for. I originally bought the guitar because of its amazing acoustic "Mahogany" tone but it sounded amazing plugged in also. Then I got the VS and that was all of the Mahogany Dreadnaught I'll ever "need" so I sold the DC.
