Members rickeboy Posted September 23, 2007 Members Posted September 23, 2007 My first post..yeah!! Hello, If you have the 2003 Santa Cruz Retail Pricing list PLEASE contact me or email it to me PLEASE. OR if you don't have the list but bought a Santa Cruz D model mahogany (DM) back in 03 please let me know what you paid for it, or what, if you remember was the retail price back then. I REALLY want to buy this (old stock) new 03 Santa Cruz DM, but am not sure what they went for new back then to make my offer to the seller. I know what they go for today and the seller is asking TODAY'S retail price. I hope that if I can get the information as to what they sold for new back in 2003, I might be able to get the seller to realize his price is too high. PLEASE help if you can. my email is: suprabee@gmail.com thanks!Rick
Members D For Kate Posted September 23, 2007 Members Posted September 23, 2007 base price for SCGC back then was approx $3500, normally 10% off if the dealer likes ya. that was what I paid for my 000 anyway. if im not mistaken there was an upcharge for mahogany back then, but dont quote me on that. NEW old stock... i dont think its unfair for a retailer to be asking for today's prices? Unless a 2007 DM is technologically superior than a 2003 vintage, you might have some bargaining power.
Members rickeboy Posted September 23, 2007 Author Members Posted September 23, 2007 thanks for the info, but I can't see comparing a OOO to a D-M. In the current 2007 retail pricing from Santa Cruz Guitars, these two models are $300 apart in pricing today, who knows what the difference was back in 03. All I can find on the web is 2006 pricing which shows the D-M at $150 less than today's pricing. I agree with you in that there is not much difference between the 03 and the 06 D-M models, maybe better tuners now; however, I don't think it is FAIR for a dealer to be selling a guitar, as "new" (from their own stock) that they paid for in 03 under that year's pricing and selling it under todays pricing. If that were fair and OK..then we would see EVERY dealer doing this to make money. This is not the same as a private party buying a guitar, letting it sit for a couple years as it appreciates, then selling it at a higher price. Just my feelings... thanks again for the info, rick
Members D For Kate Posted September 24, 2007 Members Posted September 24, 2007 Rick, Ill check my files when i get home if the price list is attached with the catalog...but based on my calculation, a straight line inflation of 3% (comparing 2007 vs 2003 prices for a 000 though) would bring the DM to $3100 in 2003 dollars. in terms of fair trade, the retailer is not selling a used instrument, wouldnt you agree? she could easily maintain that storage cost of a durable good would add up over the years. trust me, its more profitable for music stores to see a high turnover rather than stocking up for an uncertain future on the brightside... the 2003 DM has waverly tuners!

Yes, I agree with you, I'm just trying to be an informed buyer and I would be more persistent in talking down the price if I found that in 03 it sold for...oh Awaiting patiently for the possible price info, Rick
