Well..yep..it's NDG here. Yes...I went and did it. After weeks of trying different brands/models I finally settled on a Taylor 114. No electronics but I will remedy that soon. I feel like I just joined a special club...finally my first real "quality" built bade in the USA guitar. I know it's Taylor's entry level model but man...for the price I couldn't find anything I liked. I am one to really trust my hands and ears when purchasing a guitar and $600 was just about as much as I wanted to spend. I tried....Martins, Tanglewoods, Simon and Patricks, and even an Epi Masterbuilt....but the Taylor one out.

Here are some fresh pics...my baby has only been home for 2.5 hours:love:

Congratulations to you, OGP. I'm really happy for you. And you played enough guitars to know what you wanted when you finally settled on one. No buyer's remorse.

Thanks guys:)

I am going to take it to tonights open stage that I am hosting and will be electrifying it with a Fishman NeoD soundhole pickup and outboard pre-amp DI box.

I must say that I really like the look of the satin finish on the top as it doesn't show my grubby fingerprints. I think this will be my actual honest to goodness "gigging" guitar...once I get a good pickup installed.

I am sooo in  with my new guitar.

Congratulations! I still mic all my guitars at open mics. My 110 with medium strings has quite a bit of volume and mic-ing has never been an issue. Mmmmm...the smell of new spruce.

sounds like you did your homework and found the right one for you. You looked at some nice instruments, and any one of them would have made a good choice, This one sang to you, and without question Taylor makes a really nice guitar. I'm a fan. And what a great looking one you got!

Nice guitar and nice pics; Congratulations!

I was not enamored of Taylors for a long time. Although the workmanship was always outstanding and they were very comfortable to play, I didn't connect with the bright tone. And then I noticed that at every open mike I went to, every Taylor I heard sounded really great. Either it was the fact that they were amplified, or that I was finally hearing what they sound like from the front. In any case, I am now a fan.

Love the grain on that back, by the way.

Well...I just tried her out at my weekly open mic. Even with a simple passive Fishman Neo-D soundhole pickup this guitar sounds amazing.

I too have had the same experience as you Baba. A lot of players use Taylors at the open mic and I have always felt they sounded bright (not really a bad thing) but when amplified they sounded awesome. Last night I let a couple of friends play mine while I listened from the back of the room (it's a tiny local pub) and even though guitar was going through the small house PA system I could still hear it "acoustically".

I am very impressed with the volume and tone on this guitar and it's single note sound. Last night, during one performer's slow acoustic jazz/blues type number I got up to sit in and rip some single note blues licks. The guitar didn't lack any response or tone there either. Nicely balanced sustain, tone and volume from all the strings...again this was going through a Fishman Neo-D soundhole pup. I don't think I have heard any of my other guitars sound as nice though this pickup. I can just imagine how it will sound over time when the guitar "opens up". I can't wait....:)

Congrats, OGP! I find that most x14 series Taylors are well-suited to this kind of playing. And its an awesome feeling when you find a pickup that really responds to a guitar. Way to go!

Thanks Ellen. I know you love your Epi as much as I love the my Taylor and I have to admit that the Epi Masterbilt series would have been my "other" choice but selection is severly lacking in this part of the woods. I was only able to find one... I believe it was a EF500 series model. It was about $100 less in price than the Taylor and the only one I tried had seriously DEAD strings on it...so the tone was shall I say..."non existant". That and I wasn't too crazy about the very pronounced "V neck". I guess I find the Taylor's neck shape to be a nice combination of an acoustic and electric feel. Now...I think I am sold on these Elixer Nanoweb strings that Taylor puts on the guitar. I kinda like the feel of them. They feel like a set of strings that have already been "broken in" yet still have sustain and a bit of "sparkle". I think we have already thrashed Elixers in another thread so I'll just shut up now...:blah::blah:

Back to playin'...

That's a perfectly good reason to go with the Taylor. Not to mention you love it. I love my Masterbilt but I know its not necessarily for everyone, so I'm glad you found a guitar you love!
