Members GUITKRAZY Posted September 27, 2007 Members Posted September 27, 2007 Greetings all- Long story short- I have 2 Alvarez acoustics and I just purchased a Ibanez Exotic Wood (New) and I use D'addario EXP12's (which are 13ga strings???) any way, in the past I never had a problem with string breakage- and a few weeks ago at a gig- I broke a string (A string) on my no. 1 Alvarez- So after the gig I replaced all of the strings with a new set- Meanwhile, during the gig when my string broke I switched to my Ibanez- I replaced the 11's with EXP12 (13 ga and they were a fresh set) Midway through the second set Pop! I broke my G string! Crazy! The next week after putting new sets of strings on both guitars and actually I pulled the Saddle out of the Alvarez and noticed cuts in the saddle from the strings- so I sanded them out and everything looked great- Sure enough at the next gig I broke strings again! At this point I am really racking my brains- I use thin picks (dunlop Tortex 50mm) and I am not a hard player- These are 13ga strings! They are pretty heavy, but I love the sound- I did for the gig tonight (accidently) put 11's on my Ibanez- they felt good- but I want to see how long these strings hold up- BTW- All of the strings are breaking at the saddle end- and I know the saddle appears to be the culprit- But I swear I have fine sanded all of the grooves out- Is it possible that I have a bad batch of strings- I normally buy 3 sets at a time- at $10 a set, it is getting a bit costly- and these strings in the past have lasted a long time- Now I am changing them very frequently- I am clueless- should I look into other strings- Hellllllp!!!!!!!!!
Members garthman Posted September 27, 2007 Members Posted September 27, 2007 Yes, perfectly possible. {censored} luck.
Members Bernie P. Posted September 27, 2007 Members Posted September 27, 2007 Absolutely possible.Send them back to the maker not where you bought them an explain the problem. They often will send you free replacement sets.Good luck!
Members kwakatak Posted September 27, 2007 Members Posted September 27, 2007 Yes, perfectly possible. {censored} luck. +1 I recently tried to sting up my Tak with a set of Elixir Nanos only to find that one of the strings (the B string IIRC) had no ball end. I have already disposed of my old set so that guitar currently has NO strings on it.
