I have been on the search for a new guitar for a while. I haven't played in quite some time. I had been on the search for a non-ply, OM sized, USA made guitar but a cracked tooth reduced my budget.

I am looking at a Walden G550. I have read the comments on the forum and feel comfortable with the brand. I like the guitar very much.

The place wants $240 for the guitar. They will include a new set of strings along with a full setup at no charge.

Is this good or am I being taken?

Thanks. Scott

Good deals are relative to circumstance, opportunity, lust, patience, luck, karma, etc.

I own four Waldens. Despite having the two highest-end models---G3030ce and G3000---my favorite is a Walden G1070. I got that one on eBay from a young man who bought it new as an impulse and then ran into money troubles. When his eBay ad didn't get bids immediately, I watched as he lowered the reserved price twice in four days, then I scarfed it up at the last minute.

So, I got a SupraNatura G1070 with solid top and back (lam sides), the 1-3/4" nut width I like, and a deluxe hardshell case---including shipping---for less than the $240 you mentioned. And it's turned out to be a very sweet instrument.

I've bought some guitars for too much and sold some for too little, so I don't feel "superior" or smarter than anyone else. Happily, I didn't NEED this particular guitar, and I wasn't compulsively driven by desire, so I watched, waited, and got a great deal.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't buy the G550 with a gig bag for $240. Walden Naturas are nice guitars. It's just that any question about whether or not to buy a certain guitar for a certain price always contains numerous intangibles that influence our decisions.

Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, sometimes we get rained out.

That price includes a set up.

That can run anywhere between $25 and $75 depending on who does it.

I would ask them to delay the setup until after you've had it a couple months. Let it get used to the temp and humidity in your house, and let you get used to how you play it. Then take it back in and have it tweaked.

Thanks for the input. My original concern was if I was getting a good price. It's harder to find street prices on Walden guitars than for others.

The price does include the bag. I wish I could take it home for a while. The problem is I'm purchasing it out of state while on an internship. The stores in my area and all the others stores in the area I am now laughed at me when I asked about a setup. The store in question has been very professional and courteous considering I'm only looking at a $200 guitar.

To offer a new set of strings of my choice and a setup which I get to watch and learn from shows how they care.

I think I've found my new guitar. Thanks for the help everyone. I

I think you'll be happy with your choice.

Out of curiosity, what store is it? Never hurts to give some free advertising to folx who are doing right by you.

For price comparison, you could probably save a bit by going ebay, but that wouldn't get you the setup or the strings or the ability to look at the instrument first. The store I got my Walden from lists the G550 at 229.99. That includes setup but not a new pair of strings. So I'd say 240 is right in the ballpark.
