Members missedmyexit Posted October 2, 2007 Members Posted October 2, 2007 What a 35 yr waste of a good guitar?
Members Freeman Keller Posted October 2, 2007 Members Posted October 2, 2007 Isn't this a little like finding the 58 corvette in a barn with 50 miles on the odo? but, this would be an opportunity to test the "opening up occurs from playing" theory. If you send it to me and someone with a 35 y.o. J55 that has had the bejesus payed out of it also sends me theirs I promise to do one of my infamous studies, complete with pictures and arrows and mp3 and all that stuff. Gonna have to play them for a few years first, tho.
Members favata5 Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 it wont sound good at all,its ruined:thu:
Members Sikovit Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 I'm not quite sure how 35 years old qualifies as new. I agree with Keith (missedmyexit). It's kind of a waste.
Members denvertrakker Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 I'm not quite sure how 35 years old qualifies as new. N.O.S. (New Old Stock)?
Members guitarcapo Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 Was it strung up to tension all that time? If so does it need a neck reset?Is it a Norlin Gibson?
Members avapxia Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 you're lying unless there are pics.
Members Hamhand Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 My Gibsons are 30 and 32 years old, and have never been played by a true guitarist. Does that help the conversation?
Members athomas Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 hmm.. 35yr old Gibson J55 new in box30yr & 32yr old Gibsons that have never been played by a true guitarist... not sure exactly what to make of this but i am going to take a shot. I am sure this 35yr guitar has problems. Please post pics, cause that will help shed more light to the situation. What are you looking to do with this guitar? what do you define as a true guitarist?
Members Glenn F Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 Someone who hasn't left their guitar in a box for 35 years?
Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 Gibson guitars from the 1970's were made by Norlin. Not a very good time in the company's history. From what I understand these 1970's Gibson don't fetch as much on the used market as their older models.
Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 I just found a price listing off of a "vintage" guitar site for Gibson J55's: Vintage Price Value :1939 - 1943 > $15 000 to $17 0001973 - 1982 > $900 to $1100 ( reintroduced )------->1994 > $1600 to $2000 ( limited edition
Members guitarcapo Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 Norlin introduced really heavy bracing to their acoustic line in the 70's because they didn't want to do any warrantee work. They had this bracing pattern called the "double X" which basically killed all vibration of the top of the guitar. It was like stringing up a wooden milk crate with strings and trying to play it. Seriously bad. I remember playing them in a guitar store as a teen and even then scratching my head at how particularly bad they sounded compared to the Martins, Guilds, and Alvarez guitars in the shop.To this day I would never buy a 70's Gibson without playing it first. Ebay buyers beware.
Members MaxVolume Posted October 3, 2007 Members Posted October 3, 2007 This guy's lying. Just making a useless thread.
Members jerseybaz Posted October 3, 2007 Author Members Posted October 3, 2007 no lying I know how it looks and plays its just great .bought from Insightout Music Wisconsin U S A s/n.A407706 that ones for Max Volume I'm sorry but I cannot get the photoes to this web site will try a little laterThis is genuine I have aquired this guitar from the USA because I think it is a service to musicnot to allow these old musical tools to go to waste in a whare house so someone can make money selling it exclusivity. It was good to get the positive remarks and not so good to get the negative comments may be from players to young to understand the reason for paying a lot of money for some think that will never realise its worth thanks for your ears I do love musicBaz
Members Greymuzzle Posted October 4, 2007 Members Posted October 4, 2007 Hey, jerseybaz, regarding your location? jersey, chanell island. Is that anywhere near Jersey in the Channel Islands? With your head in its current position are you aware of the risk of strangulation by your own sphincter? Bye now.
