Members jd-drafter Posted October 11, 2007 Members Posted October 11, 2007 Well it showed up last night- from music123 i'll get pic's later today or tonight- packed very well- no apparent damage. definitely a spartan deal- they don't even include a wrench for the truss rod- as expected the action was deathly high down near the 12th fret- not to bad up in the first position though- so i went through and tuned to DADGAD- not bad sound- of course i had to run it out to my dad's place- we went ahead and took almost a tenth of an inch off the saddle, and cut some new string grooves in the bridge for the octaves- so now it's pretty playable. but my dad wants to do a fret leveling on it- then shave the bridge a bit and take the saddle down another 30 thou. or so- the fret's are decent- no sharp edges- the fret board is not bad either- over all i think it was a good deal- i'll get pic's and a clip asap-
Members Tony Burns Posted October 11, 2007 Members Posted October 11, 2007 sound like a good deal- congrats going your way !
Members happy-man Posted October 11, 2007 Members Posted October 11, 2007 Happy new guitar day. Nice to be able to do your own setup to make it playable. Why shave the bridge? Is the neck angle wrong? Scott O
Members jd-drafter Posted October 11, 2007 Author Members Posted October 11, 2007 thanks folks- it's hard to not get a good deal at that price- as for the setup- and saddle shave- i guess the neck angle would have to be wrong. several of the reviews i read mentioned removing as much as 3/16th of an inch from the saddle- unfortunately the result of a shorter saddle/bridge is less energy transferred to the sound board- my dad is already planning on the necks falling off in 6 months- 8^) we shall see- he claims they leave the action high to prevent fret buzz- heck it's a cheap guitar- but he sure had fun with it so it's a keeper-
