Members guitarist21 Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 So my little Crate bass amp which I have been using as a bass amp and as a mini-PA of sorts has seen better days. After mentioning to Terry that I was in the amp market, he suggested this little number, which would fit my need for both a bass amp and a PA-type thing. It is more expensive than what I was originally looking at and I'm just afraid to pull the trigger. Thoughts, comments, opinions, alternative options? It looks like it is what I'm looking for, but I'm still scared to spend $400 on anything because of how much of that I have to borrow. And I'm not working again till the summer. College student thing. Which is why I'm trying to make a little extra money busking! Here's Carvin's page: http://www.carvin.com/products/single.php?ItemNumber=ag100d Here's Carvin's eBay store selling a factory second (this is probably the route I would go): http://cgi.ebay.com/AG100D-100W-Acoustic-Guitar-Amp-with-Digital-Effects_W0QQitemZ160144132944QQihZ006QQcategoryZ23785QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem Ellen

An "A stock" unit gets free shipping and the warranty, this one doesn't and costs $$$ to ship. I would think that, where you are, there should be loads and loads of good used stuff in music stores, pawn shops, etc. If not in town, then in the 'burbs. Don't rush into anything.
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 This is a great little "swiss army knife" amp, but that auction's not that great a deal...hit the pawnshops, craigslist, etc. and find a good deal on a used one. Here's one! http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/msg/447759595.html...in San Fran, S/H won't be that bad...
Members Simon76 Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 Is there a way search all the cities in CL at once?Like do one search for Carvin instead of having to go to each city and search one at a time.
Members Abando Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 http://www.musiciansbuy.com/ROLAND-CUBE30-ST-2-CHANNEL-BATTERY-POWERED-AMPMINI-PA-WFREE-HEADPHONES-CUBESTKIT.html Ellen, check out the link. It's a Roland. It's a brand new product. It has a built-in tuner, effects, channels for instrument and mic, runs on batteries so you can take it anywhere, can be used as an AMP/PA, etc. It was recommended in another thread. Only weighs 12 pounds if I remember correctly. Abando
Members guitarist21 Posted October 16, 2007 Author Members Posted October 16, 2007 Ellen, check out the link. It's a Roland. I That's a very cool little amp, but at 2.5 watts per channel, its not really going to do it for me. I plan on using this amp not only if I end up needing it for busking, but this is also most likely going to be my main gigging rig. Probably going to need at least 40 watts. Ellen
Members Simon76 Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 I found a cool site that searches multiple CL cities. The searches take a long timeso be as specific as you can.http://crazedlist.org/
Members Abando Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 Ellen, I had no idea the power was that low. I assumed the Roland 30 had much more power. Maybe you should look at the Crate TX30E that Terry has. One is selling at Instrument Pro. You can also get an additional 10% with some kind of online coupon. I can't vouch for their service, however. Abando http://www.instrumentpro.com/P-CRATX30E.html
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted October 16, 2007 Members Posted October 16, 2007 Besides the Taxi 30, the only other battery-powered "mini-PA" I'd consider is the Walker Labs "SoundTrek Jr" This one can also be a bass amp (as can the Crate Taxi and the Limo), but it has a very respectable 60 watts RMS! http://www.walker-labs.com/Freedom%20Accessories%20Destination/pages/SoundTrek%20Jr.htm Also, if your friends might kick-in w/ you (this is pretty cool!) The ULTIMATE battery-powered PA!: http://www.walker-labs.com/Freedom%20Accessories%20Destination/pages/Lunchbox%20660.htm and http://www.walker-labs.com/Freedom%20Accessories%20Destination/pages/Lunchbox%20Speakers.htm Back to reality, though...Ellen, if you can't find a used AG100D in your price range, find a used Taxi30 and go earn yourself the $$$ to get the AG100D!
