Members Snare227 Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 Hey guys (and gals) I'm getting an Alvarez AJ60SC in the mail in a couple days and I was wondering what cases online would be a good fit for it. Being a jumbo guitar I would say most standard dread cases won't fit. I'd rather have a hardshell case over a gig bag or ployfoam or anything like that, something that can take a little bit of abuse at gigs. I was looking at this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gator-Deluxe-ABS-Jumbo-Guitar-Case?sku=545883 but I haven't really saw too many other choices. I'm looking at spending around 100 bucks or less if possible. If any of you have had this guitar or a similar jumbo and could point me in the right direction for a deal I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Dustin
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 That's an excellent case for the $$$!
Members guitarist21 Posted October 17, 2007 Members Posted October 17, 2007 Check out this article at Frets.com before you buy a case --> http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/Acessories/Cases/WCases/wcases.html ...just to give you a general idea of what's out there. The only kind that will almost always been over $100 is a flight case, which you probably don't need anyway. Ellen
Members MePeel Posted October 18, 2007 Members Posted October 18, 2007 TKL makes an excellent hardshell case for the Gibson SJ style. GC has 'em for under $100. Mel
Members Tony Burns Posted October 18, 2007 Members Posted October 18, 2007 INTERESTING ARTICLE IN FRETS - but it simply states you get what you pay for - personnaly i think Gig bags suck - they offer little or no protection , cheap chinese cases ( like musicians friend brand ones ) are ok for around 50 bucks -I picked one up for a so so guitar -TKL is a super case- That gator case your looking at is a good case for the money .
Members daklander Posted October 18, 2007 Members Posted October 18, 2007 INTERESTING ARTICLE IN FRETS - but it simply states you get what you pay for - personnaly i think Gig bags suck - they offer little or no protection...... Didn't read the article yet but I can say the if you have a good gig bag you guitar will be well protected. There are hard shell cases that will provide less protection because they don't fit the guitar and don't protect the guitar all much better, if at all, than a given soft case.
Members brahmz118 Posted October 18, 2007 Members Posted October 18, 2007 I've owned both the ABS molded plastic cases and the TKL-style wood frame cases with the leather-like covering -- and I think I prefer the latter. The differences are subtle. The extremely rigid ABS case makes a louder sound when you hit doors and walls with it. It's also much more painful against a kneecap. The ABS case feels like it could shatter a vase with a mere tap, while the TKL would probably push it off the table. But just the corners and edges of the ABS case are hard -- the center flexes a bit under pressure. My TKL has an arch and doesn't flex.
Members MePeel Posted October 18, 2007 Members Posted October 18, 2007 Addendum: MF has its own line of archtop hardshell cases that run about $60. They're very well made with 5 ply construction, quilted lining, and six latches, one of which has a lock. I have my Alvarez in one. Mel
Members Snare227 Posted October 19, 2007 Author Members Posted October 19, 2007 I think my main worry is about ordering a case and having a good fit. I'll probably just wait a day or two until it gets here and measure it up. Thanks for the responses.
