Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted October 20, 2007 Members Posted October 20, 2007 I was at the local music shop yesterday and saw one of these on display. It seemed kind of smaller than I had imagined and was very light and portable. Does anyone here have any experience with these? I have checked the HC reviews and they are quite favorable for the most part but I'd like to get some recent input if possible.

Brought it back and bought the Fishman Loudbox Performer
Members d03nut Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 I've got an AC-30, I think. Not bad....... I'd say what a Seagull is to acoustics, the AC is to amps.... That don't even make sense.... Best to wait for the next response....
Members guit30 Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 I tried one, thought it was cheapJ
Members 12Pack Posted October 21, 2007 Members Posted October 21, 2007 I purchased one - played it for about three days then took it back. Despite the anti-feedback compressor I was getting nothing but feedback. - I wasn't to happy with it.
Members JaLester Posted October 22, 2007 Members Posted October 22, 2007 I don't like them that much at all. I also took mine back and purchased a fishman loudbox.
Members missedmyexit Posted October 22, 2007 Members Posted October 22, 2007 Searched this out when looking to pickup a acoustic amp. I have Roland Studio monitors that sound amazing. These didn't impress ended up getting a Crate.
Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted October 22, 2007 Author Members Posted October 22, 2007 OK...well..It seems like there are a few here that really didn't like the amp. I will hold off trying it. The main thing that appealed to me is it's size and weight. I think I might have other less expensive options though. Thanks for everyone's opinions
Members guit30 Posted October 22, 2007 Members Posted October 22, 2007 Here's a cheaper onehttp://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-IBZ10A-10W-Acoustic-Amplifier?sku=480134Jim:poke:

Your ears may be different from those of the folks who've responded so far. The only way to know is to listen for yourself. I don't own the AC60, but I've tried it out in stores with a classical, and I thought it sounded pretty good. Of course, in that environment, I didn't push it very hard, so I can't speak to how it might handle being shoved to its limits. At low volumes, the antifeedback wasn't intrusive to my ears. I'm curious as to what the new AC90 might sound like. More power, bigger speakers, might satisfy more. The Fishman Loudboxes also sounded good to me. Ergonomically, the Roland might have the edge, though, at least for me. YMMV, as always.
Members opencee Posted October 22, 2007 Members Posted October 22, 2007 OK...well..It seems like there are a few here that really didn't like the amp. I will hold off trying it. You SHOULD try it. You should try as many as possible, with YOUR guitar. I tried many brands and models with MY equipment. We all hear differently, and we ALL have our preferences. I noticed that you have a Martin 000-15. I have one too. All-mahogany guitars have a sound that many do not enjoy. I happen to love it. You can read many online discussions about all-mahogany guitars. Many will recommend moving up to the Martin 16 series from the 15 series because they sound SO MUCH better. Well, NOT if you prefer the 15 sound. I took a PUTW Dynamic Trio pick-up system out of my guitar, because it was damaged, and installed the K&K Pure Western Mini that I'd heard SO much about. It's okay, and it starts with more signal, but the PUTW sounded WAY more natural, and had MUCH better string separation. I bought an Ultrasound AG-30. I like it very much. It just got slammed in another thread. Anyway, just citing examples of my/your tastes vis-a-vis the majority opinion. Use your own ears. Go out and try that amp. It will give you a point of reference to make YOUR decision.
Members mister natural Posted October 22, 2007 Members Posted October 22, 2007 I'm actually suprised that many here don't like the AC60 It's the first roland guitar amplifier that anyone has had anything bad to say about it . . .
Members OM16 Posted October 23, 2007 Members Posted October 23, 2007 I've had the AC-60 for about a year. I use it every Sunday in a small church that doesn't have a PA system for both my guitar and vocals and it sounds better to me than anything else I've tried, including Trace, Fender, and Genz-Benz. We have also used it in nursing homes and even as a powered monitor for a PA system when we set up in a Wal*Mart parking lot! At around 25 pounds including the case, I can usually carry it, my guitar, and gig bag in one trip. For the size, weight, and performance, I can't find anything bad to say about this little amp.

I've been really impressed with those amps, probably the first acoustic amps I've really liked. Very transparent and natural sounding. I have a 30, but will probably be getting a 50 or possibly even a 100. I do wish they were available in the higher power ranges without all the digital stuff, which I neither need nor want.
