this. 21 yen...

can`t even tell youse how much that is in US or Canadian dollars except the rate today was 116 yen to the US buck...so what, pennies? Well...even if it turns out t be a donor guitar... SCORE ! Asked my wife to try to read the label...but she couldn`t figure out the signature. Let youse know how it turns out when I get it...

Sweet! 21 yen! That's like nothing. Love stuff like this.

Kind of OT but speaking of cheap deals- if you ever go on to Craigslist (which I have been combing lately in search of an amp) check out the "free stuff" link. Tons of people just giving away stuff- there were like three PIANOS on Boston's Craigslist yesterday!

Hell, just the ebony fretboard and bridge make the 'cool' factor worth much more than that. The back looks great - I'd have to say that if it's at all playable you've gotten the deal of the day!

So, that translates to maybe 25 cents US? How can that be? Are nice old classicals plentiful as dirt over there? What was the starting bid? You could make some $$ exporting stuff like that back to the States, methinks.

Back OT to Ellen's comment about pianos on Craigslist -

There's a Hammond B-3 in Denver for $50 with "issues" - unfortunately, that could mean a big job. B-3s are the most complicated damn things I've ever fooled with. But I sure would love one...

`spose there is a possibility the seller pulls out though I`ve never heard of that happening I`m not familiar with Yahoo Japan`s rules on stuff like that. Seems ligit. And yeah, old MIJ classicals...and some acoustics...are real cheap, paid slightly less than $100.oo for a Sadao Yairi classical in a local used shop a few weeks ago...one sold for $400.oo last week on the web here...but it seems, add a few Spanish words to a label and they sell for much more.

Looks like tonight I may have found the beater that the drunks in the bars can play you know when they refuse to take no for an answer. Actually...the service charge for transfering the money will cost me more than the guitar did.

SSSCCCCOOOOOOOOOOORRRRREEE!!!!!

Where was it hand made?

That neck joint looks good.

Very nice looking wood on the back.

That label holds the keys to finding out the whole story.

says hand made in Nagoya Japan...thats one reason I went for it `cause my old Yairis come from there and Yamaha was building the old Dynamics I own there too so there were some great guitars coming out of that part of the country. No idea how this one will turn out but for that price I won`t be too upset if it turns out to be crappy. My wife may get more info on the maker once she geta a good look at the red name stamp on the label, I`ll ask her if theres a year on there somewhere too.

Have a 1$ bid on a KOGA tonight but I suspect thats gonna go up `cause they have been gaining popularity recently...keep youse posted.

That's interesting. Japanese collectors have driven some Americana right through the roof price wise. McIntosh, Marantz tube stuff, Collins ham radio gear, some microphones. I'm not beefing about it, that's the way free markets work, although I wish the market in whole log timber was a little less free.

It would be nice to find something quality Japanese stuff to retaliate with. Looks like you've got a head start.

well you know, folks on other sites that I visit talk about a service called Rinkya that evidently does your bidding for you...as it were...on the Japanese web...for a fee of course. I often see Rinka`s bids on items I watch so I guess it works... I mean if it didn`t I`d certainly have read about it by now. I`ve paid as little as $10.oo for some of those fabulous Yamaha Dynamics I can`t stop talking about so even with shipping to say, North America along with their service charges it is possible to get in on some of the great deals to be had over here. I know they have an American woman stationed in the States,?Arizona I think? as a go between so she could answer any questions you could think of. I am in no way, shape or form connected to Rinkya, nor have I ever used them but I just wanted to stoke your GAS pangs.

it`s here...and the day after I placed the winning bid on a 1979 Masao Koga model for 100 yen. So, here they be. The Koga is certainly all laminate while the other one with the label that has the illegible signature appears to be all solid, matching grain on back and sides and at the very least the top is solid. Has a couple of fret ends that need filing but thats it. No date on the label. Very good quality tuners while the Koga has the run of the mill tuners that are on many inexpensive guitars, still they work fine and at 100 yen I ain`t complaining.

...Koga on the left...

so, for less than one US dollar... presenting...

it is crazy ain`t it?

We all think stuff over here is way more expensive than anywhere else...and most of the time thats true...I`d never buy $10.oo strawberries, $70.oo cantaloups or $3.50 apples...but I was more than pleased spending less than a buck on these two babies.

Gotta go see if there are any more on the web.

back later.
