Members SkipBone Posted October 23, 2007 Members Posted October 23, 2007 Anybody know what's going on with these guys?Same issue on the book racks since spring.I subscribed back in January, got one issue then nothing. it's run by one guy out of his apartment. I doubt you'll get much consistency in publication dates with this set up. I had high hopes for it when I found it only to discover there's really not much there. Ashame, someone could make a nice magazine out of it and I'm guessing there's a market for it nowadays with the fingerstyle acoustic craze that is sweeping the globe, or at least seems that way anyway. I guess it'll be complete when Eddie Van Halen trades in his Kramer for an OM and starts playing fingerstyle... but whatever. Anyway, don't hold out much hope for the magazine. I gave the guy my credit card number and honestly I never bothered to look if he charged me. I since cancelled that card so I'm not too worried about it.

Kwak is a big fan of that magazine. Maybe he knows something about it. I came close to subscribing a few months ago but I noticed the same thing you did. The same magazine has been at Borders for months.
Members pk1fan Posted October 24, 2007 Members Posted October 24, 2007 I guess this explains why I haven't received any issues to sell in the store where I work . Very good mag and the cd is a nice bonus .

I let my subscription lapse and they were actually pretty pushy with getting me to renew; they called my house and emailed me directly (not a form letter.) The last issue I got was with Andrew York on the cover but that was about 4 months ago or so. It'd be a shame if they went out of business since they've been around for 10+ years.

Never got the Andrew York or any other subsequent issue. I agree, it will be a shame if they go by the wayside.
Members Queequeg Posted October 26, 2007 Author Members Posted October 26, 2007 So, I got home tonight and there in my mail box is Fingerstyle Guitar.Alex deGrassi on the cover. Been listening to him since the 70s.I had dinner with him a few years ago when he lost his wallet in Ann Arbor.Glad FG is up-and-running again.
Members Freeman Keller Posted October 26, 2007 Members Posted October 26, 2007 A few months ago I sent all my old FG mags to a forumite - haven't heard from him since LOL. I wanted to like the mag but most of it was above my ability so I let my subscription lapse. Good quality and the cd was nice (so much better than AG's hokey online listening thing) but I think I probably learned two song in five or six years of subscribing (and actually haven't totally learned them - Chet's Vincent and Larry Pattis's Big Mtn Sunrise) However last night AG was in my mailbox (with a notice to renew) - feature article on Guild, playing tips by Chris Proctor, Willie's "On the Road Again", an article on guitar nuts.
Members Queequeg Posted October 27, 2007 Author Members Posted October 27, 2007 I know what you mean, Freeman. But (and I'm trying to justify this to myself now) the CDs are worth a couple of bucks in each issue. The cover story this month is on Alex deGrassi which I will enjoy, plus a transcription of his arrangement of "Lay This Body Down" and I would love to have one of his pieces in my repertoire. So, if I can learn one piece a year from this magazine, I will consider it good vale. I recently paid $10.00/each for two transcriptions from Stropes Editions LTD. (They have lots of Kotttke tranx, incidentally.) And I often buy a book of transcriptions to get one or two tunes out of it and those can run $20 or $25/book.BTW I saw Chris Proctor here last month. Good show and a very personable guy.
