Members Bernie P. Posted October 31, 2007 Members Posted October 31, 2007 Since I havent gotten any takers on stuff listed here its time to go with ebay.Have any of you found you get better results with your listings ending on a particular day or around a certain hour of the day?
Members denvertrakker Posted October 31, 2007 Members Posted October 31, 2007 It's really a guessing game, but lately I've been trying to start my listings on Sunday around one o'clock local time, three pm eastern. If it's a seven-day listing, that means it'll end a week later at the same time. Plenty of time during the week for looky-loos, and then the real action comes Saturday and Sunday. I don't quite understand listings that end in the middle of the night, since lots of folks wait til the last second to bid....I ain't gettin' up at four am for nuttin'! I know I get overly wordy on some of my listings, but I think it's better than "guitar. plays good."
Members Berkleo Posted October 31, 2007 Members Posted October 31, 2007 I've had very good luck listing on Craigslist. I've found the title of your Craigslist post counts the most; "Alvarez PD100s - Professional Series Acoustic" got no replies but the exact same git listed as "Great Guitar Seeking Good Home" got four replies the day I posted it.Cheers
Members rjoxyz Posted October 31, 2007 Members Posted October 31, 2007 I am with Denvertracker's reasoning on this one. I start and end at 10pm Eastern on a Sunday. Gives the West Coast until 7 pm.
Members happy-man Posted October 31, 2007 Members Posted October 31, 2007 My preference as an eBay buyer is an evening closing, but not too late; so that jives with rjoxyz's suggestion. I've bought 3 guitars on eBay, and might have gotten a couple more if the closing time was right. I'd also suggest trying craigslist. I'd doesn't cost anything, so it can't hurt. I really don't care to go through the hassle of shipping a guitar if I don't have to. Also, some local papers have free classifieds if the price is under $500. I've recently sold two inexpensive guitars this way, one craigslist, one free classified. Scott O
Members Bernie P. Posted October 31, 2007 Author Members Posted October 31, 2007 Well maybe I'll wait a bit longer and try Craiglist as well.I just sold the Cumberland to a guy that heard my ad on the local radio stations "Swap Shop".This was a free ad that ran over the weekend.I was surprised when I got the call today.Usually they call on days the ads run.Anyway, thanks for the advice!

Members Howie22 Posted November 1, 2007 Members Posted November 1, 2007 I've had great luck with Craigslist as well. Plus, you don't have to worry about a low end to your auction. If you don't like the offer with craigslist, you don't have to sell it.
Members happy-man Posted November 1, 2007 Members Posted November 1, 2007 ... I've had the exact same listing (something like "Guitar - Washburn Dreadnought $90") produce two results: nothing, and the phone ringing all day long on the first day (sold it to the first caller early in the morning, he met me at work) I had a non-guitar item that was on craigslist for several weeks. I gave up on it and also listed it in a free newspaper classified - then someone called and bought it due to the craigslist ad. You just never know. These things work best when you're not in a rush. eBay gets a much larger audience, but you chance making less due to the shipping. You just never know when the right buyer will be looking. Scott O
Members MePeel Posted November 1, 2007 Members Posted November 1, 2007 I used to use Ebay, But now I think that Craigs list isthe way to go. No shipping, and the buyer gets to play it before buying. Ithink that it's a good deal for everyone. Mel

But when I'm surfing Craigslist I might not click on an Alvarez guitar unless that's what I was looking for. Great Guitar Seeking Good Home makes me too curious - I couldn't pass that up. I do agree patience is key though.
