Members Hudman Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Was there ever such a day? Yes, back in the 70's. Him, Glenn Campbell, Neil Diamond and John Denver were cool back then too.
Members missedmyexit Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Was there ever such a day? Big fan of Kenny minus the ballads and the duets.
Members Simon76 Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 That was some freaky video effects for the time. Was there ever such a day? That man has spent more time within 3 feet of Dolly Partons chest then most people have spent in church. He's certified cool.
Members denvertrakker Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Yes, back in the 70's. Him, Glenn Campbell, Neil Diamond and John Denver were cool back then too. I'll give ya Kenny, Glenn and "Mr. Far Out", but Diamond as a performer has always made me gag. Great songwriter, though. Does anybody remember the "Smothers Comedy Brothers Hour"? I think at least two of those three appeared on it, but the best was an outstanding performer named John Hartford, who I think is sadly mostly forgotten.
Members garthman Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Yes, back in the 70's. Him, Glenn Campbell, Neil Diamond and John Denver were cool back then too. No, no, no, no, . . . . . . ! I was young in the 70's and those people were never cool.
Members Hudman Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 No, no, no, no, . . . . . . ! I was young in the 70's and those people were never cool. I will blame disco on you. I was a little kid in the 70's (born in 1969). I remember seeing all of those guys on TV and hearing them on the radio. Hey, I didn't like those guys, I thought Kiss was cool. My first 8 track was Kiss Alive. I think I was 7 or 8 years old....
Members garthman Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 I will blame disco on you. .... Oh, that hurts, that really hurts!

There was a good article on John Hartford in the "Fretboard Journal" . I saw John Hartford once about 28 years ago , sadly I don't remember much about the show:confused:.
Members totamus Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 1) Kenny is playing a 6 string, the bass player is standing next to him2) John Hartford rocks - a great composer/showman/performer. He is missed3) sighs - I was in high school in the late 60s and early 70s (yep bona fide hippy) and Kenny was cool.
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted November 2, 2007 Author Members Posted November 2, 2007 1) Kenny is playing a 6 string, the bass player is standing next to him No, in the first video, that's Kenny singing and playing the Telecaster bass...in video II, he's lipsynching, but he was always the bassist for the First Edition and was decent at it.2) John Hartford rocks - a great composer/showman/performer. He is missed Indeed, yes! 3) sighs - I was in high school in the late 60s and early 70s (yep bona fide hippy) and Kenny was cool. Yeah, he was...after he went solo, he kinda shed the cool, I'm afraid.

Members Berkleo Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Yes, back in the 70's. Him, Glenn Campbell, Neil Diamond and John Denver were cool back then too.At first I'm thinking, um, no. However roughly 82 times a summer 35,000+ people (of questional sobriety) sing Sweet Caroline together at the top of their lungs, in downtown Boston. They can't all be wrong......

Members rjoxyz Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 Yep. Tommy Smothers is a Guild guy. I could be way off on my Guild history, but didn't the D-55 originate as the "T.V. Guitar" on the Smothers Brothers Show?

I believe you're right, at least that's what I've always heard/understood. It seems rational cuz I can't fathom why Guild would name their then special order ax, "T.V. Guitar". Trina
Members babablowfish Posted November 2, 2007 Members Posted November 2, 2007 I remember really loving "I Just Dropped In ...." back when I was a young man on the cusp of the whole hippie phenomenon. Today it seems so silly, which is fitting because the lyrics are devoid of emotion or meaning. I guess I wasn't swimming in the deep end of the pool in those days.

How about "Ee-leck-tric-al banana...bound to be the very next thing...";) I just heard Donovan's "I Love My Shirt" on the radio the other day and thinking, "Wow, has there ever been a dumber song?"

How about "I Almost Cut My Hair" by CSN&Y? In any case, "don't be concerned, it will not harm you, its only me pursuing something I'm not sure of. Across my dreams with nets of wonder. I chase the bright elusive butterfly of love."

We better quit now. The young'uns will be thinking we really have lost it...And what ever happened to Bob Lind, anyhow? The only happy-sappy song from that time period that I still really like is Eric Andersen's "Violets Of Dawn" - either his own version or Rick Nelson's. Al Kooper, who did it with the Blues Project, has said he despises it.
Members kwakatak Posted November 3, 2007 Members Posted November 3, 2007 Man oh man - how can Neil Diamond NOT be cool?
Members MattSkibaIsGOD Posted November 3, 2007 Members Posted November 3, 2007 Will Ferrel is a funny guy, but Neil Diamond is a legend. A great song-writer and singer whose writing is easily up there with Lennon and McCartney.
Members Simon76 Posted November 3, 2007 Members Posted November 3, 2007 And of course who can forget the never ending song/music from Tangerine Dream that was in every adult film for at least 75 years.
Members mildlysane Posted November 3, 2007 Members Posted November 3, 2007 1) Kenny is playing a 6 string, the bass player is standing next to him First video, 1:58. Looks like a bass to me...
