Members 0rbitz9 Posted November 7, 2007 Members Posted November 7, 2007 I've seen Robert Fripp in concert a few times, performing with various incarnations of King Crimson, and as a solo artist. Last night I got to seehim playing with his League of Crafty Guitarists. The group consisted of Robert Fripp on electric guitar, and ten of his disciples, all playing identical Ovation guitars amplified through the PA system. All of the guitars were tuned in Robert Fripp's new standard guitar tuning, C-G-D-A-E-G from low to high. The group played some really crazy stuff. They would often start acomposition with each musician playing one note or chord of the song, then the adjacent player would play the next note, and then the next player, until it went around the whole circle several times, until they broke into playing as a full ensemble. Many of the pieces consisted of dividing the musicians into several groups each playing different parts, often in overlapping time signatures. At various times, Fripp would Augment the music with his electrified soundscapes. This could be a recipe for mayhem, except that it was all executed with preciscion. This concert really bent my brain and opened my eyes. It was great! http://www.thelcg.net/

Sounds very 21st century schizoid, man...
Members simplygoodmusic Posted November 7, 2007 Members Posted November 7, 2007 Sounds really cool. Last time I saw Fripp in concert was during the G3 he did, and I was, to say the least disappointed. But every dog has his day...

Yeah, I saw him with G3 a number of years ago. Definitely not the right gigging situation for him. But I give him credit for mingling with those rock guitar heros and giving it a try.
