Thumbs down on microcube

I recently bought a microcube from Sweetwater for a practice amp. It had sounded great at the store. At home, I find that to get the effects to work, the amp has to be pretty loud. What I was trying to avoid. And those cheap digital effects really do not do much for me, even the lightweight issue was wrong, they told me it weighed 7.5 pounds, why did the package I mailed back weigh 12 pounds, the boxes can't weigh 4 pounds. My stereo sounds much better for now. Oh well, my guit even sounded better without it!!!!

Yup, I got the microcube home, and the speaker kept "farting out" even at low volumes. Just didn't like it in the real world settings.

Bought a Peavey model with effects built in (check my sig) for $99 at GC. It's hands down a better amp.

I was gonna say....

I'm a recent returnee to playing after a long layoff and alot of stuff has changed re: equipment/effects/gadgets/etc. I was checking out your post and thinking "Why on earth would a fellow want a practice amp w/ an acoustic guitar?"

I could understand needing an amp for gigging/jamming w/ electric players. I'm not trying to be derogatory.....just trying to see the advantage.

Sorry to hear that man.
Did you try a Vox DA5? I am not sure how much it weighs. I have one and it has a switch so you can drop it down to .05 watts so it's not too loud if you turn it up a bit. I have one and I love it...I have even used it busking!

I can tell you why I chose to use an amp with a high quality guitar. I have a 40-60% hearing loss and I can hear what I play pretty good while strumming. I'm learning finger picking and just was not satisfied with the sound. I tried other parts of my home but still needed volume. The amp is a good solution for me....well theres that and it does have a knob that goes to 11:cool:

I've got a micro and the only time the speaker "farts out" is when the batteries are low. Plug it in and/or change the batteries and check it out.
BTW, the only setting I HATE on this amp is the acoustic setting. Ugh! (sounds good for recording electric bass through, paradoxically)
