Members jd-drafter Posted November 14, 2007 Members Posted November 14, 2007 now does that style of pickin' only really work well in a lead arrangement? if the bass and other back ground tone was not there would the thumb only tone be lacking? not being critical- just curious- it seems that with other finger style playing you get the lead and rhythm all at once - ala' kottke-fahey- etc...

It doesn't provide all of the cool counterpoint or polyphonic things that you get with Travis Picking and similar fingerstyle playing. But when done properly the thumb only style offers nice chord-melody potential.
