Members paganskins Posted November 15, 2007 Members Posted November 15, 2007 Hi, I've been through the AG forum whilst researching which acoustic amps are worth trying, have I missed anything suitable from the following list?I'm in the UK so Crate, Peavey, Ultrasound, Fender etc aren't available or out of budget.I'm looking to spend
Members totamus Posted November 15, 2007 Members Posted November 15, 2007 The marshall has been getting a lot of good press in this forum. I have had a Behringer ACX1000. It had a good sound. I did not like the user interface, especialy the dsp. For the money it isnt a bad choice. If you have the ability, you might try your acoustic through a Keyboard amp - they do quite well also.
Members guitarist21 Posted November 15, 2007 Members Posted November 15, 2007 That's a good list. My personal favorite in there would be the Marshall or the Behringer. I have friends with both and they are big fans. The Marshall is a tank. And my friend who has a Behringer acoustic amp plays violin through it and I'm always impressed at how well it covers the really high notes and doesn't sound tinny or compressed. Best thing to do would be to take your acoustic to the local store that stocks some of these amps and play through them. An amp, just like anything else with acoustics, responds differently to different guitars and pickup systems. Ellen
Members outdoorgb Posted November 15, 2007 Members Posted November 15, 2007 I'm using the Marshall in the AS50D size (50Watt). I really like the sound I am getting while practicing fingers. Note: I am using for personal home use only. Not on tour...yet. I also checked out the Genz Benz - great sound but just a tad more $.
Members T.B. Posted November 15, 2007 Members Posted November 15, 2007 I have the Laney A1; lots of headroom, clean/clear tones with bells/whistles, but a grand sounding amp none the same.Trina
Members Greymuzzle Posted November 15, 2007 Members Posted November 15, 2007 I favour the AER compact 60 but it might be a bit out of budget. Imho the AER 40w pushes out easily the sound of most 50w amps. and manages vocals beautifully as well. If it is going to be fed into something else to produce 'a bit more wellie', can I suggest you give one a listen? Hope you get the answer that is right for you.
Members dmkkeng Posted November 18, 2007 Members Posted November 18, 2007 My favorite of the bunch by far is Ultrasound however of the amps you identified: Behringer - I'm not very impressed with quality or reliability of this amp. Marshall - Compared to other acoustic amps I didn't like the sound quality. I haven't tried the Ashdown or Laney. My selection would be the Roland - they appear to be well built, don't have reliability issues, are very compact and produce a good acoustic sound.
Members guit30 Posted November 18, 2007 Members Posted November 18, 2007 The Behringer acoustic amps are quite good, the higher end ones, there is a smaller one for 59 bucks, but don't know if it would be that good, have used a Peavey keyboard amp in the past with great results, it had 3 inputs and reverb.Jim:wave:
Members athomas Posted November 19, 2007 Members Posted November 19, 2007 I would also suggest looking at the Fishman loudbox amps. I have a one and I love it.
Members maplebbay Posted November 19, 2007 Members Posted November 19, 2007 like greymuzzle I have an AER - never looked back. It was out of my range as well however 1st Quality Music in Louisville KY was discontinuing the line and I got a steal. A buddy of mine also found one at remarkably under retail. They are unreal amps, might be worth a couple of phone calls, just my thoughts, good luck.
Members paganskins Posted November 19, 2007 Author Members Posted November 19, 2007 Thanks for all comments and opinions. Unfortunately both the AER and Fishman are out of budget, I'm looking to spend
Members AndrewGG Posted November 19, 2007 Members Posted November 19, 2007 I've been using the AC60 which works fine for both guitar and vocals. If you're using it with a UST you need to be very frugal with the EQ though or that horrible piezo quack gets oppressive. I use a Fishman soundhole pickup which sounds a bit more natural but nothing beats a decent mic IMO.
Members Mikeo Posted November 19, 2007 Members Posted November 19, 2007 Don't know if you can get the Fishman Loud box in the UK, but they are preety damn sweet. I also recommend a used SWR CA Blonde. The new CA Blonde is made buy Fender, probably made in Mexico Fishman is a USA based company, but the Loudbox stuff is made in China. Mine seems to be fine.

That said they are out of your budget guidelines so I'll suggest taking a look at some Crates as well.
