Members guitarist21 Posted November 8, 2007 Members Posted November 8, 2007 So, as you may recall, I ordered a Carvin AG100D off Craigslist and got a really good deal. I expected it about a week ago, when I checked the tracking number and noticed it was being sent back to the seller after it got all the way to Chicago! Alarmed, I sent him an email asking him how come he sent it back. He didn't email me for two days, last day of those two being today. So I sent him another email and he sent one back which read: "Yes I did have the item stopped and sent back to me and my wireless connection has been down until today so I'm sorry I havn't been able to contact you... The amp I found out the day I shipped it is stolen and I was not aware of it... So I had to get it back or I would be in great trouble for trafficking or something.... So I'm gonna need to refund you your money and I sincerely appologize for this hassle! Please don't file a claim with paypal, I will take care of it." Basically, while I'm glad that he says he'll refund my money, I'm annoyed because I thought I'd have this amp for my gigs this week and next week. So I'm back in the market. Anyone selling a Carvin AG100D? Ellen
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted November 9, 2007 Members Posted November 9, 2007 That's truly the sh*ts, Ellen! Have you got your refund yet? I'll see if I can find someone selling another... Here's something interesting: http://cgi.ebay.com/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180176817005 http://cgi.ebay.com/Carvin-AG100D-Acoustic-Guitar-Amplifier-PA-Bass-Amp_W0QQitemZ130171903525QQihZ003QQcategoryZ121154QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Members missedmyexit Posted November 9, 2007 Members Posted November 9, 2007 Why didn't he refund your money right away? If I sell someone something and then mid shipping have to yank it back my first thought is return the money the second thought is to have the shipping reversed. This whole thing sounds a little strange to me but then again I'm not a trusting person by nature. I'ld tell him to return the money today or you are going to paypal.

Plus, the guy didn't even notify her, and his "wireless connection was down" just when he found out that the amp was stolen..... He does sound "apologetic" now. That's a start. Hopefully you'd get refunded today, Ellen.
Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted November 9, 2007 Members Posted November 9, 2007 :cry:Gosh...thats terrible news Ellen as I know how much you where looking forward to getting the amp. I hope you get your money back and everything works out ok. Regards, OGP
Members rsgars Posted November 9, 2007 Members Posted November 9, 2007 Ellen: Don't know if this would help at all, but one of the best shops in my area (Albany, NY) has a used Crate Telluride for $290.00. I have not seen or played this amp. If you want to know more I will go an take a look at it tomorrow. Or, you can check out their website and contact them directly. www.parkwaymusic.com
Members missedmyexit Posted November 9, 2007 Members Posted November 9, 2007 From Daddy's http://www.daddys.com/used/?itemnumber=CAR0158250.00 You can walk across the street and tell them you want it to be shipped from VT to the boston store.

I don't know - that amp looks pretty beat, and for $150 more, you could get a factory-fresh one from Carvin. How 'bout that, Ellen - save up until you've got a few more ducats and buy a new one? I know I tend to be a fan of instant gratification, but sometimes, it's best to wait a bit longer to get exactly what you want...
Members guitarist21 Posted November 9, 2007 Author Members Posted November 9, 2007 Thanks for your suggestions, guys, I appreciate it. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do yet. I don't have the money for a new right now but maybe if I busk a little more... Why didn't he refund your money right away? This whole thing sounds a little strange to me but then again I'm not a trusting person by nature. I'ld tell him to return the money today or you are going to paypal. The whole thing is strange and I am pretty frusterated. When I didn't hear from him for three days after I noticed it had been sent back, I filed a dispute with Paypal and I refuse to close it until I have my money. I will escalate it to a claim if he doesn't pay soon. He said he doesn't have the money right now... which is dumb. I'm giving him a little leeway for now because aside from taking the amp back, he hasn't been dishonest. If he takes too long I'm not going to give him anymore leeway because this has been a pretty ridiculous experience. I've already had to play a gig without it. About the amp, the Harmony Central reviews say that the older models have reliability issues- something about a heat shrink that's too small. I'm going to keep my eyes open. Ellen

He doesn't have the money right now? That's just crazy talk! You sent him the money. Somehow he "Found out it as stolen" where does one get a amp then immediately tries to sell it on craiglist then finds out it is stolen. The whole story sounds more and more like a bunch of BS. What has Paypal said on this? I hope they have some way to make this right.

Members RizinRico Posted November 9, 2007 Members Posted November 9, 2007 I hope that you get your money back. this smells mighty scammy
Members ihateyouguys Posted November 9, 2007 Members Posted November 9, 2007 I'd file a claim with paypal anyway. IIRC you lose your right to file a claim after a certain period of time, and it sounds like you're being jerked around right now.

What has Paypal said on this? I hope they have some way to make this right. Yup. Our friend here has had a string of bad luck lately. First, he "found out" the amp was "stolen" on the very same day that he sent it (probably on the minute, too). Then, his "wireless connection" "goes down", so he can't contact Ellen. The poor guy has no alternative to this "wireless connection" that has mysteriously "gone down" at the same time that the other mysterious occurrences happen. In addition to this, it turns out that the old chap has absolutely no money at all, so he's not able to refund people that just sent him money for things he never delivered. Of course, it is possible that he really found out that it was stolen, and that he really had problems with his internet connection, and that he's really an honest guy, albeit a bit light on the brain cells. Hypothetically, it's somewhat possible.
Members guitarist21 Posted November 9, 2007 Author Members Posted November 9, 2007 ...albeit a bit light on the brain cells. Hypothetically, it's somewhat possible. I'm banking on that for now. I sent him an email asking him to pay half of it now because I'm losing money that's not in my account earning interest. (It's a debit card) So for more than two weeks now I've had $215 less in my account. This whole situation is really dumb and I'm frusterated and I smell a scam just as much as anyone else. But as long as I get my money back, I'll be okay. I have the option of filing a claim with Paypal right underneath my fingertips ready to go. I also could call my dad, who might very well march down to this guy and beat the snot out him. Ellen

Members Terry Allan Hall Posted November 9, 2007 Members Posted November 9, 2007 I actually have another two and a half weeks before I can't file a claim anymore, and he said he would pay in that time. I think the Telluride is the only acoustic amp I'd consider buying and it has the capability of being used as a PA system with instrument, mic and an aux input, if I remember right....

An excellent choice as an acoustic guitar amp and/or mini-PA, but Ellen also needs it to play bass thru and that where that amp is weak... Let's all keep our eyes pealed for a AG100D for our Princess!

Let's all keep our eyes pealed for a AG100D for our Princess! Thanks Terry! I'm going to be a lot more picky this time around though. I'm going to buy it from somewhere as close as possible (that's why the Daddy's option intrigues me, there's one right across the street from me), and I'd prefer one of the newer ones, primarily because the reviews say the new ones are better. Ellen
Members daklander Posted November 10, 2007 Members Posted November 10, 2007 Well, I've heard this is a decent unit, but I have no 1st hand experience, myself...) Comes down to this Terry, would you buy it, sight unseen and untested, and figure you'd use it for your own gigs?Personally, I never give a boost to something I don't have and use or I wouldn't be willing to buy and use as a staple in my gigs and I wouldn't take the chance on that piece of gear.
