I'm puzzled by the total lack of interest by HCEG to my invitation to contribute music to the Annex. I've had a sticky up for almost a week, and have gotten absolutely no response. The one person who submitted electric music, while an HC member, responded to an invite on another board.

Any theories?

Hmmmm...I dunno Krash. From my limited experience on the HCEG forum they seem like a different type of community to ours. Maybe they just need a little time to adjust to the idea? I also see a lot of folks over there have their own various Soundclicks, MySpace and other sites that they post their tunes on...maybe that's it?

Not sure how they are setup there. This forum in my experience is different from most I've been on. It really has the community feel to it. I have my stuff posted on my website and myspace, the reason I posted on the Annex is to share it with the people of this forum. Maybe they just don't care.

I used to spend a lot of time on the EG forum. They have a regular ongoing recording project there. One person supplies a backing track for a song and each person does their own version of it.

If it helps, I just emailed you 3 electric guitar songs.

Scott Goudeau is playing lead on one of them.

He wrote the lead and then he really nailed what he wrote.

I have a 1940's-style Girl Group singing on the other.

(The Pfister Sisters).

Sent a third one too. "A Bossa Valentine".

Rob Block plays some scales on his Heritage archtop

that are just out of this world. A much better guitarist

than me studied this recording just to transcribe Rob's

lead.

His wife Tomoko and I co-wrote this song. The three of us recorded it in my bedroom-live. 2 takes-no multi-tracking. They are two of the best musicians I've ever seen, let alone worked with.

Tomoko is a world-class pianist & Bossa fanatic. That's what we had in common - an enduring love for Bossa Nova. Rob was her piano teacher! He's a guitar genius. But he was also a classical pianist - Julliard. His Mom taught piano there.

Both are way out of my league. It was an honor to even talk to them let alone collaborate on a song with Tomoko.

Yeah, I like lurking and occasionally contributing to those threads. Frets has a good thing going over there, but that's pretty much the only appeal that HCEG holds for me. The rest is strictly gearheadedness.

I think it's weird that people only go to one forum. I visit all the forums regularly and play both electric and acoustic guitar plus bass. Strange crew around here dudes.

Marc - if you sent those songs to me, you've jammed up my email - I'm using a dialup. Send them to Freeman if you want them posted with your other music in Acoustic, or to Brandon if you want me to set you up in Electric. Email links are in the "How do I contribute music?" instructions in each music section.

Thx.

Krash, I've been wanting to hear some of your playing. Post'em, 'bro.

Be careful what you wish for.

Alas, my only musical talent is listening.

:thu: I agree entirely - it's all music. I don't really understand the us vs. them attitude. I'm playing electric tonight; next session I'll probably play acoustic. And if I'm listening to a lot of jazz, I get inspired to play my bass. I enjoy the variety in playing and listening.

No doubt. That's one of the reasons I enjoy coming here. I really like the vibe in this place.

I get some good information from the guys over at HCEG (and I do love my Strat & my Harm), but I started out w/ an acoustic as a teenager, was steeped in the sounds of CSN, Neil Young, JT, Jackson Browne, Eagles, Marshall Tucker - that whole post-folk/country rock sound of the 70's. Acoustics just hold a special place in my heart, and it's really cool to hear from other people that apparently feel the same way.

HCAG rawks.

What's strange about us?

Is it because we don't act like 15 year old boys?;)

It's sad people view this forum like that. I never felt like it's "us against them". I no longer play electric guitar, so I don't go to that forum. I'm sure there are plenty of people like me here.

I prefer acoustic guitar.

Thanks. That's some incredible playing.

2 takes - in my bedroom - live.

I can't believe they were interested in collaborating with me.

Last I heard, Tomoko was back in Chicago playing with a Brazilian

ensemble up there. I think their name is "Chicago Samba".

If anyone thinks they're a good guitarist. They can try to figure out what Rob is doing.

To see those two work out parts was a privileged musical experience for me. And watch out world,

they have a daughter.

I sent 'em to Brandon. I'm pretty sure I followed the instructions.

I think the Annex is a great idea and I have enjoyed listening to some of the recordings by you good people. I haven't contributed because, alas, I have no recording equipment. I suppose I could try using a computer microphone and see how it sounds. I'll let you know.

Talking about the EG forum, it's a very different place. I've joined in a few threads but many of the people there have, shall we say, very entrenched notions.

A comparison of posts on a similar topic might go something like this:

Thread:

Hi there. I've been thinking about getting a new guitar and would like some advice on the wood the guitars are made from. How does the wood effect the sound? I've tried a few different guitars and I really can't hear much difference.

1st Post:

Well hello and welcome to the forum. There is a lot of differing opinions here about what wood is best. Some folk like spruce tops, some like cedar, some people like solid wood but a lot of people are happy with laminate. It's generally felt that spruce gives a "brighter" sound and cedar a more "mellow" sound. My advice is try a few differnt guitars and pick the one you like best.

2nd Post:

Yes, thats good advice. I like a spruce top and a mahogany top myself but, HST, I've got some laminate guitars too and they sound OK.

Hi. Welcome to the forum. Here is a link to a site that tells you about differnt woods - it might help.

Thread: I'm looking around for an electric guitar and a friend said I should get one made from swamp ash cause they sound great. I've been listening to his guitars and I can't hear any difference between his swamp ash guitar and his plywood guitar. What should I do?

 It's a bit caricatural but funny nonetheless. And unfortunatly can be quite true at times. I'm a usual poster at the HCEG (although I'm really more of an acoustic guitarist than electric) and I might add that many members there are quite helpful and would look more like the first part of your post in the way they reply. I agree that the HCEG is a little too much about gear and there are seldom discussions about music... but when it happens, there are really good and competent people that make it worth checking out the occasionnal gems. The people running the sticky jam threads are fantastic and are good players too.
