Members jd-drafter Posted November 30, 2007 Members Posted November 30, 2007 actually just left it at my dad's house- most of which is his shop. we are putting a piezo pickup in it- not the best way to go by any means i know- but it's a $100 dollar guitar- adding the pickup already half again increases it's value- we played a bit together- he actually wanted to learn some of my "stuff"- which is odd since i don't really even know my own stuff- but it was fun- and i got to play around a bit with his latest acoustic rebuild- and my line 6 amp- all those effects can be fun- as long as you drop the treble all the way down to make up for the brightness of the piezo crystal- so aside from the pickup he's going to go over the setup, try to lower the action a bit more- give the fret's a clean up and just apply some of his holy luthier mojo to it- it's fun to see him play that 12'er- lot's of sound there- i should get it back tomorrow right before our outdoor ~chilly~ ish gig- here's to hoping everything works out fine-
Members dhoenisch Posted November 30, 2007 Members Posted November 30, 2007 I tell ya, your dad is something else. I still find those aluminum guitars to be very cool, and great sounding. Also, I really enjoy my el-cheapo, $100 12-string. It's a Carlo Robelli, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are made by the same folks. Really nice sounding to me, and definately loud enough to play at church to lead singing. Dan
Members jd-drafter Posted November 30, 2007 Author Members Posted November 30, 2007 this rogue was sort of an experiment to see how bad it could really be- and we have both been surprised by it- has good tone- built really well- hold's a tune- and for the $ it's not like you have to worry about it too much- hopefully it will only get better with time... as that laminated top opens up ove the years....8^) ha ha ha-
Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted November 30, 2007 Members Posted November 30, 2007 Sounds interesting jd. I am curious to know how it sounds. I say if you like the guitar no matter how much it cost than adding a pickup is really worth the little extra expense. Let us know how everything works out and....keep warm.
Members jd-drafter Posted November 30, 2007 Author Members Posted November 30, 2007 i'll see about getting my kids to maybe record some video- i also need to start recording whatever it is i do so i can put it out for critique- 8^) thanks for the well wishes-
Members jd-drafter Posted December 1, 2007 Author Members Posted December 1, 2007 well- here we go- the guitar is done- a new piezo pickup, a fret job, and had the action lowered another .020 (20 thousandths) as well as cleadning up some rough fret ends- i will get it right before we play this evening- at the semi outdoor event- and the weather right now- 46
Members Fred Fartboski Posted December 1, 2007 Members Posted December 1, 2007 .020 (20 thousandths) Wouldn't that be twenty hundredths? 8^)
Members Freeman Keller Posted December 2, 2007 Members Posted December 2, 2007 Wouldn't that be twenty hundredths? 8^) no, tenths, hundredth, thousandth. That would be two hundredths, but a machinist speaks in terms of one thousandths of an inch. An eights of an inch is still "125 thousandths"
Members naboutboul Posted December 2, 2007 Members Posted December 2, 2007 Wouldn't that be twenty hundredths? 8^) lol, nope that would be 20/1000 or 2/100 twenty hundredths would be 20/100 or 2/10
Members jd-drafter Posted December 2, 2007 Author Members Posted December 2, 2007 yeah- i know better- normally in civil engineering we only deal with tenth's and hope the bulldozer and backhoe get close... 8^) this thing plays much better- my dad even gave it a go several times- with and without finger picks i am dying to plug it in though and have some fun with the amp -
