According to the builder, it's a HEAVY guitar, but quite robust sounding newly strung up. Looks like it's getting close to delivery! Members Vasco Posted November 30, 2007 Author Members Posted November 30, 2007 I just got word that the final setup & prep on this guitar is complete and the builder is planning on shipping it to me next week! Lord, grant me patience!! One of the cool things I discovered about the case used for this guitar by John Osthoff the builder, was it's shape: Because of the 'wedge' shape of this guitar's body, the case manufacturer, Ameritage, built a 'wedge' case to conform to the sloping thickness of the body. Having seen one of these 'wedge' cases firsthand at the Healdsburg show, I was very impressed by the quality & durability of the Ameritage cases. Luxuriously padded and built like a vault. It does provide some 'peace of mind' for a cross-country trip. Here's a shot of the wedge case John had at Healdsburg show: :thu:
Members Vasco Posted December 9, 2007 Author Members Posted December 9, 2007 I'm happy to report UPS just delivered it to my office this past Friday morning. I was relieved to see the package intact and without severe compression. The Ameritage case is really a quality case and the ''Osthoff' logo gracing the top is a nice touch...AND it's a "left-handed" case, of all things....Upon opening the case (and removing all the additional padding the builder John Osthoff carefully provided to ensure a safe trip), I was quite impressed at the subtle beauty of this guitar

Members guitarcapo Posted December 9, 2007 Members Posted December 9, 2007 African Blackwood has to be one one the most dense and difficult to bend of all the rosewoods. The extra 6 tuners probably don't help the weight either. I have a back and side set of Afrian Blackwood in my garage large enough to build a jumbo guitar out of but it is a concern of mine. I'm just going to thin it a lot. One thing nice is that the pores are so tiny that filling isn't needed. I also have a pair of African Blackwood trees in the back of my house here in Naples, FL. I grew them from seeds I bought off Ebay for 10 bucks. 5 seeds came and 2 sprouted. They're about 3 years old now and about 5 feeet tall. Very bushy tree with lots of thorns. I have to prune them a lot to actually become tall trees and not bushes.
