I'd like to see Britney try something like this...

It's too bad that she is so messed up but according to recent reports at least she finally is in "Rehab" cuz this girl is the real deal folks.

Oh, man, I wore out that CD over the summer. Love, love her voice -- I'd probably allow her to lead me down the path to all kinds of ruin.

She is real good. Hope she lasts, from all reports she's pretty screwed up. I forgot exactly what it was but there was a report the last time she was in rehab that she was hospitalized for taking a crazy amount of drugs. They listed them and I remember being shocked anyone can live through it.

Yep, she is good, that is the first I have heard. I wondered who she is, see her in news. I like her music, a pop throwback, never would've thought I would see that again.

Such a voice is a priceless gift. Pity she has no sense of that, nor of self worth, hence, the self-destructiveness. So sad.

Amen--I sometimes wonder if she and that Pete Doherty guy have some sort of bet on who can kill themselves faster.

She seems very detached or distracted while singing, as if she is making up a grocery list in her mind while doing the song. Sounds a little loaded too. Great blues voice, pitty she seems intent on doing a Hank Williams.

Makes ya wonder.

If they don't survive, they're in stellar company....

Joplin, Elliot, Hendrix....the list is long. Wonder what they all would have created had drugs not taken their toll.

Joan Baez died of a drug overdose? I thought she was still alive and like a vegetarian...or something?...:freak:

Joan Baez is fine last I heard.

WHOOPS! My bad. Blame a brain fart. That should be Joplin, not Baez. Duh.:freak:

Now I'm gonna go edit my post before somebody locks me up in a little padded room.

She looks like she is in her mid to late 30's. She's only 24 years old. Her drug use and partying have added an easy 10-12 years to her appearance.

She kind of reminds me of a dirty and drugged out version of Joss Stone. Both are young English blues singers. Although, I think Joss sings better.

Sort of a funny story:

My two older boys, 15 & 13, immediately put on channel 20 on XM whenever they get in my car, which is often. For those not in the know, channel 20 is "20 on 20": the current top 20 songs. It's weird: you end up with everything from Carrie Underwood to Ludacris to Akon to Kelly Clarkson to Amy Winehouse to Kanye West to Souljah Boy on the station. Anyway, I took an immediate liking to Rehab the first time I heard it - sounded like something straight out of the '60's, but my sons HATED it. They started joking they were going to jump out of the car when it came on, because my rule was, if a song started, it played. Anyway I downloaded the album on iTunes, and like Stackabones, I proceeded to wear it out. I have to say I consider her a true talent.

I have no comments on her appearence as I think way too much emphasis is put on the way women in music look. Let it go. Men don't suffer the same fate. She has a great voice. She's British, they never look healthy, IMO. Besides it just as well could be the lighting.

As for the person who said she looks "detached" while singing, someone should point out in her defense that this was obviously just back stage goofing before or after a show or something. Really expect her to spill her soul every single time she sings? She sounds great, that's all that counts. Cut her some slack, please.

If people hadn't heard about her issues most of these comments would never have appeared. She seemed coherent and fully composed in the video. To say anything else is just taking an unwarranted shot at the girl.

Look at the picture of her now and the picture BEFORE her drug problem. She was at least 45 lbs heavier and she looked healthy.

You missed the point. It isn't her "looks" being judged by me. I pointed out that drugs took a toll on her looks and on her health.

I say the same stuff about male drug addicts.

Okay, fair enough. You weren't into the superficial aspects of her appearance. Some of the comments I've seen tended to veer that way but obviously yours wasn't one of them.

I don't think she looks healthy in either pic.

Peace.

The "before" pic shows a healthy-looking young woman with a lush figure most women would kill for. But like many women, she probably looked in the mirror and thought "gee, I'm fat."

The "after" pic shows her with a serious problem, be it drugs, eating disorder, or other serious illness. Poor child.

Curious as to what aspect of her "before" appearence you find to be "unhealthy looking"?

That dress is totally cutting off circulation.

Possibly, but to be completely certain, I'd need more pictures to peruse... ;)

In that pic, she reminds of an expression my Grandfather used for gals w/ her dimensions..."So round...so firm...so fully packed!" :phil:
