even for $20, just so so ugly.

I'm gonna throw it in the back of the car, just to have around on long drives. Force someone else to drive while I jam lol.

Shudders...

Martin should apologize to the guitar community at large for their horrific sounding and looking backpacker. Its funny that some Asian company has choosen that ugly design and crappy sound to copy. They are probably dumping them at $19.99 to get rid of non-selling stock.

Thanks for the post (really), but if you have ever played one, you might prefer to use that $20.00 bill for sometime when a public bathroom is out of TP...

I've seen those on eBay and I worry that someone will buy it thinking they're getting a Martin Backpacker. I have a Backpacker and while it is nothing fancy by any means, I have to believe that the quality of workmanship overall is going to be way better than one of those eBay ones. The tuners alone on my Backpacker probably cost $20.

Awful waste of money. I have a Backpacker ... I bought one in a moment of temporary insanity and a belief that money grew on trees.

There's gotta be better ways to burn $20.

imo

I too saw those on Ebay and considered one. I wanted something I wouldn't have to worry about taking out in the cold (Iowa winters can get down there). The I tried a Martin backpacker at a local guitar shop. I wouldn't buy the $200 Martin version if it costs $20, and I had low expectations of it. I don't see how that backpacker could really be any better.

Well...they have one for $15.00 but the shipping cost is $28.00 :freak:
So the thing is gonna cost $43.00

We have this discount store here in Canada called Giant Tiger and they sell slightly better looking little kids guitars by this company called "Burswood" for about $40.00 Their larger "Folk" style one is $59.00 and the dread is $89.00
The poor little Burswood Folk model looks to be actually a nylon string guitar (tie on bridge/slot head tuners) that the factory put really crappy steel strings on it. I pity the poor kid who gets that for xmas under the tree. :(

I think it's unnecessary to be all condescending, I ordered one it's only $20 If I happen to hate it I will donate it to a local youth programs so the kids can play around with it. You get what you pay for, I'm not expecting quality by any means, it just seems like it would be quite fun to keep it in the car or another relevant place such as the office where space is tight and it will only be used every so often.

Sorry, Naboutboul. Really, I am.

We don't mean to be condescending, though I admit, we do sound that way. We're having fun at the expense of the little git, not you.

And I do agree, having something to diddle around on and not worry an iota about destroying is worth $20. Heaven only knows, there are very few gits anyone in their right mind would stash in a car, drag to a campsite, etc.

Now have fun with it. :)

Cool..so what color did you get?...I for one hope it's a useful guitar for what you want to use it for it sounds ideal. I for one see no problem with spending $20 on something that might make you or (in the future) someone else happy :)

When you get it please post some pics and tell us what you think of it. Most of us here like any kind of guitar talk...even if it only cost $20.00 :thu:

Dont take it personally, certainly not meant that way. Samilyn is right, all aimed at the guitar. I have played the Martin version, and seriously, I wouldnt give $20 for one. It really is just not much of an instrument. I have seen small travel guitars brand new for the $100 range (same size as the baby Taylor). I know it costs more, but really, its better than realizing you wasted your money on purchase and shipping...

A buddy of mine, who plays dobro, bought one of these...action was perfect, once I installed a higher nut.

Tone wasn't too bad and it was louder than I thought it would be...all in all, it was OK for what he wanted it for (a "dobro" to take camping and to use in places he'd hesitate to take one of his good instruments) and for what it cost (about $35, total).

We later put a magnetic P/U across the soundhole and it's turned out pretty cool! :)
