Members lovegun Posted December 17, 2007 Members Posted December 17, 2007 What would be a good acoustic guitar for an adult beginner. Looking to spend around $300. Thanks.
Members Minstrel Posted December 17, 2007 Members Posted December 17, 2007 Alvarez Regent series would be a good place to start.
Members drnihili Posted December 17, 2007 Members Posted December 17, 2007 Alvarez RegentWalden NaturaWashburn D10S (Make sure it has the S)Seagull / Art&Lutherie Basically in that range you're looking for a solid top guitar that feels good in your hands and sounds good to your ear. It's to your advantage to play as many different guitars as you can before choosing. This will help you hear the differences in the guitars and also get to know what is most comfortable for you. Different brands have different neck profiles. Also, guitars come in somewhat different shapes (body styles) and neck can be wider or narrower. If you can tell us what kind of music you're likely to gravitate toward, we can offer some more guidance, but ultimately it will be a personal choice based on what you like.
Members mayan Posted December 17, 2007 Members Posted December 17, 2007 You'll find these guitars to be very good quality for what you want to spend. You can get a solid spruce top on a Mahogony body for about that much.I have a LL6 Yam.,[ paid $440.00 out-the-door ], and it sounds almost as good as a $2,000 Taylor GS guitar ! I would definately pick a Yam. over a Seagul ANY day !!!

My top beginer recommendation is a Yamaha FG700S for $199. Play everything you can in your price range. Scott O
Members Samilyn Posted December 17, 2007 Members Posted December 17, 2007 My top vote goes to the Yamaha FG700S. Can't be beat for the price, IMO.
Members totamus Posted December 17, 2007 Members Posted December 17, 2007 I have recommended Johnson several times and people have been very happy. Here is a link to a good guitar in that price rang (solid top, dreadnought. I would upgrade to the hard case. You are still under $300http://www.instrumentalley.com/Johnson-JD-16-Carolina-Solid-Top-Guitar-p/jd-16.htm
Members Broadus Posted December 18, 2007 Members Posted December 18, 2007 All the above suggestions are good ones. I would add the Simon & Patrick Songsmith, street-priced at $299. Whatever you do, of course try them out yourself. Hope you the best. Bill

Members moctzal Posted December 18, 2007 Members Posted December 18, 2007 All great recommendations. My personal favorite is the Simon & Patrick Songsmith either folk or dread.
Members Misha III Posted December 18, 2007 Members Posted December 18, 2007 Simon and Patrick or Norman or Art & Lutherie or Seagull = All made by Godin in Quebec, Canada! If you can also find and try a Crafter D6/N it's a very nice guitar!http://www.nantelmusique.qc.ca/en/cordes_speciaux.aspx?SC=5
Members outdoorgb Posted December 18, 2007 Members Posted December 18, 2007 I'll put a second in here for the Seagull and of course for the "go out and try" advice. I just got a Seagull Mini Jumbo Rustic ($300) and love the sound. Make sure you get the size of git you want. Read this again! Learn the different sizes, their specs (nut width, etc) and then play them. You will be happier.
