Welcome to the forum.:)

First off...your links to MF didn't bring up any specific guitar so..you might want to re-post them. In your example videos the guitars are a Martin (OM21?) and a Gibson J45. Personlly I would lean toward the Martin...have you looked at any of the Martin 15 series. I have a 000-15 and it's a nice in-between size and has really nice tone for folk, blues and general singer songwriter stuff. I also love my Taylor 114 for it's volume and dymamics...so far it seems like a wonderful recording instrument.

If you could re-post those guitar links that would be most helpful. :thu:

Thanks!

Did you mean John Mayer? At one time he was attempting to style himself along the lines of Stevie Ray Vaughn...haven't heard him lately.

Yeah...sometimes he's a sensitive "emo" singer songwriter acoustic guitar and other times he wants to play blues like Buddy Guy....He's a fine guitarist no doubt.

Martin has a signature model

The OM is Martin's equivalent of the GC size (actually, I like to think of it as the other way around) which I think is the most versatile of all sizes unless you only want to play bluegrass (then a dread is mandatory). As OGP said, the OM-21 is a wonderful guitar in this size that I consider moderately "affordable" (many of the 28 and sig models are pretty spendy).

Hey guys, the three models he's referring to are:

Parkwood PW320M GA

Parkwood PW310M Dreadnought

Breedlove Atlas Series AC200/SM (concert size, which IIRC is smaller than GA)

Based on the three models you referred to, it seems as if you're looking to keep it under a certain price point of $500 or so, which would pretty much cut out the OM-21 - or any Martin which didn't include some sort of laminated material.

Of the three, I can't comment with any reasonable accuracy because I haven't played any. I played a couple of Breedlove Atlases and think they're pretty nice but the list price was high enough that a solid wood guitar was a better choice IMO. That being said, the Parkwoods have a good reputation here so you should go to Guitar Center and try those two models out. I'd also look at the Taylor 114 or 214 as well which are fine guitars, though IMO you pay a little extra for the name on the headstock.

I have a Parkwood 310M which I got damaged from a Guitar Center (the only store that sells them) for a song. I like it a lot, all solid woods, too. It can't compete with pricier models, but I think it's a very good value even at the GC asking price. The smaller GA model is kinda thin without being bright. Good luck

OT: Yeah, the necks are pretty forgiving. FWIW, I've always preferred the necks on the 300 series (particularly the old 314 like Freeman's) and up (especially the new GS) because of the wider nut width and bound fretboard. They're probably out of his price range unless he looks for a used Taylor. If you like the 114 then a used solid-sapele 214 might be even better. I've seen them go for around $500.
