Members eor Posted December 17, 2007 Members Posted December 17, 2007 after spending too much time here: http://www.dougyoungguitar.com/pickuptest.htm it has been brought to eor's attention that i need a mills microphone. but i can't find much on it online, let alone an active vendor. help? love, eor thought the link would be helpful as the pup question has come up a lot lately. the mcintyre feather/mills mic combo (#22) was eor's personal favorite, by the by.
Members Stackabones Posted December 17, 2007 Members Posted December 17, 2007 Thanks a great link! I've had it bookmarked in the past but lost it. Thanks!
Members eor Posted December 17, 2007 Author Members Posted December 17, 2007 eor had found it many a year ago, where i got the stupid idea in my head that i could pull off a mic/pup combo for recording and a liking for k&k products, then promptly lost it. found it again today and learned i liked something else more better.love, eor
Members T.B. Posted December 17, 2007 Members Posted December 17, 2007 eor ...........mills mics aren't being made/sold at this time. The reasons why I don't know. Didn't find any on eBay for sale either. Trina

One thing about Doug Young's samples is tthat he did many things to keep each sample close to the next sample. For example, same preamp (usually), same song excerpts, same player. But they are not the same guitar. In addition, to sound best, those pickups often need some eq adjustment, which is not provided in the samples (some samples on a different page have eq adjustment). What I'm getting at is that you like the Feather and Mills from Doug's site, and once you get that pair installed in your guitar, using your preamp and your eq, through your power amp and speakers, you'll probably like it even more. However, you might like, say, the PUTW #54 and Mills mic better once you have had a chance to work with them. BTW, the modified AKG 416 mic is a great alternative to the Joe Mills mic. I actually like it a bit more than the Mills: Modified AKG 416 Internal Mic
Members eor Posted December 19, 2007 Author Members Posted December 19, 2007 the feather and the putw were both done on the same guitar, but eor gets you. i paid special attention to the om clips, as that's the type of guitar it would be going into. i would imagine that the clips would represent a good ballpark of what one could expect. and its fun to hear all the fancy guitars. that mic is a little pricey, but i guess i don't have many choices, so i bookmarked it for future reference. first i've heard of it, but i know akg doesn't play; the make for reallys stuff. love, eor
