Members bigou Posted December 20, 2007 Members Posted December 20, 2007 I remove the Hummingbird pickguard on my Norman St40 because I have a problem to secure my Sunrise pickup correctly in the soundhole and I want better protection on my Cedar satin finish top. I have blank material and I want to cut my own pickguard (probably J50 VS Guild). How can I calculate the raidus of my soundhole??
Members Freeman Keller Posted December 20, 2007 Members Posted December 20, 2007 Why can't you measure it? The radius will be one half the diameter, but usually a pickguard sits just outside the outer most purfling line. I would measure that diameter, add a bit, and cut to that. Looking at your picture, the one that is on it is too small and poorly positioned. Remember that if the git is very old the wood under the p/g may be lighter in color and you may have a tan line if you don't cover where the old one was (in fact, when I enlarge the picture you can see the old tear drop one under the Hummingbird p/g)
Members bigou Posted December 20, 2007 Author Members Posted December 20, 2007 That's the reason why I remove the hummingbid pickguard. I want to cover all with a new one. Thanks for the tips about measurement of the radius.
