Members LiveMusic Posted December 23, 2007 Members Posted December 23, 2007 My bro bought an Art & Lutherie "cedar" model. Wow, has this guitar grown on me. He let it get too hot near a heater and the neck bowed. We adjusted the truss rod and it's super now. Much easier to play. I tuned it to DADGAD and wow, this is awesome. Fingerstyle, it might be best I've played. But I need to put new strings on it for a recording session. I mean, I might use this guitar. Any idea what to use? I don't know if I would play it fingerstyle or strummend, nor what tuning I'd have it in. Haven't made my mind up on that. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about strings for this git. I don't think these are the originals, I think he put one other set on it. No paperwork, I don't know if they recommend a certain type.
Members jwm1958m Posted December 23, 2007 Members Posted December 23, 2007 D'Addario EXP 16's These are my new favorites for most guitars. I find their EXP 11's sound best on my Cedar/Walnut taylor. Cedar can be a bit boomy and they bring out a little more brightness.
Members MattSkibaIsGOD Posted December 23, 2007 Members Posted December 23, 2007 I like D'addario Phosphor Bronze Lights on my Cedar topped Walden.
Members Samilyn Posted December 23, 2007 Members Posted December 23, 2007 Ditto above posts for Phosphor Bronze lights. I think Phos Bronze is the best all-around for depth and warmth. D'Addario, Martin or (pricey-but-nice) Thomastik-Infeld.

This guitar plays better now that it had it's neck bowed? Are you suggesting that cedar guitars require a "heat treatment" to make them easier to play and to sound better? P.S. I'm a Martin Phosphor Bronze guy that mixes string gauges.
Members happy-man Posted December 23, 2007 Members Posted December 23, 2007 I've got a Simon & Patrick parlor, similar guitar. I emailed Godin about strings and they said to use phosphor bronze lights (12 on e). Here's their email. http://www.stringsandbeyond.com/ I ordered some light Elixirs, but before they came I put on some Martin Marquis lights (because they were free). Initially I didn't like the sound, but after about 2 days they settled down and I am happy with them. I still have those strings on it. When they wear out I'll put on the Elixirs. I don't change strings very often. Scott O
Members Guitar Hack Posted December 23, 2007 Members Posted December 23, 2007 I would put on steel strings. I prefer Martin Marquis or SP PB's but everyone has different taste in sound so figure out what you like and use that.
