Members Samilyn Posted December 28, 2007 Members Posted December 28, 2007 Now I can really start getting excited. As of this morning, my Christmas git is on the FedEx truck heading this way! Boy oh boy, the next 3 or 4 days are going to be long ones.
Members Scott Fonseca Posted December 28, 2007 Members Posted December 28, 2007 Yay! Too bad it'll be a few days. I guitar is one of the few things in life that getting it is better than the anticipation of it (most of the time, that is ). Congratulations once again on the new guitar and you must let us know how awesome it is once you get it!

Congratulations once again on the new guitar and you must let us know how awesome it is once you get it! Thanks, Scott. Yup - I'll give y'all a review. I honestly have no idea what to expect, having no experience with either this type of git or with the manufacturer. Some surprises in store for me, no doubt.

Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted December 28, 2007 Members Posted December 28, 2007 Stagg JZ120 - a Gypsy Jazz git. I'm curious to read what you think about this guitar since you got such a good deal and it looks so nice in the pics. I always like to hear about these types of deals as it just induces more GAS.(it's always nice to dream) Looks like a musically fun new years ahead!
Members Broadus Posted December 28, 2007 Members Posted December 28, 2007 Looking forward to your report and pics, Samilyn. Bill

I have to make the trek to town today for groceries anyway, so I'll drop by the vid store and see if they have it. Will be fun to watch over the weekend. I'm not quite sure if that'll make the waiting easier or harder, but at least it'll keep me from hitting the "track" link for a couple of hours. The git left Kansas at 4 a.m. this morning.
Members Samilyn Posted December 28, 2007 Author Members Posted December 28, 2007 ....I always like to hear about these types of deals as it just induces more GAS....(it's always nice to dream) I really was only dreaming, OGP, when I found that deal on Ebay. My career is a mess right now and bucks have been real tight for quite a while. I certainly didn't foresee any gits in my immediate future unless they were under $50. I almost had heart failure when hubby pulled out the plastic and told me to hit the "buy it now" button! But instead of passing out, I came out of my chair like a rocket - all over hubby just like a little kid, jumping up and down, dancing around, squealing and giggling and hugging and kissing him.

Members EvilTwin Posted December 28, 2007 Members Posted December 28, 2007 If you're looking for a Django fix, you can't go wrong with this: http://www.amazon.com/Djangology-Django-Reinhardt/dp/B0009V2C7E I found the same thing at a local music store for $15. For that price, you get 10 CDs of great music. Some of it doesn't feature Django too prominently, but you get a real musical portrait of him going into studios as both a star and a sideman. (Naxos Jazz has a lot of great Django CD's too, and they're pretty cheap.) If you can catch this guy live, he's not too shabby, either. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=120246253 Let us know when you get the guitar, Sammy. It sounds like it'll be a real winner.

Members EvilTwin Posted December 28, 2007 Members Posted December 28, 2007 Wow! I already have most of that material already, but that looks really nice. My mouse is currently hovering over the 10CD box of Fats Waller. There's a few versions of "Nuages" that are interesting on it. I'd heard the most famous version (and it's included in the box), as well as a few other electric versions (more bop-ish). But I hadn't heard two that are on here -- one sounds like an alternate take of the most famous version, the other with Django taking the main theme alone (with some backup later). And on the third disc (I think), there's some really interesting duets with Django and some guy playing harmonica/mouth organ (at first I thought it was a accordian ) that I hadn't even heard of before. There's a 10-CD Louis Armstrong CD I'm looking at. For some reason, there have been some great jazz (pre-bebop) reissues lately.
