Members Samilyn Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 The Fed-Ex truck is on its way out the driveway and there is a large, very cold box sitting in my living room. My new Gypsy git did not come with a case, so I dare not open this box until it comes slowly to room temp. The next few hours are going to be long ones. Jeepers...I'm shaking with anticipation!! Darn - of all the mornings for my digi camera to have stopped working!! I have to wait for payday to get a new camera, but rest assured - pics will be posted! As soon as the git warms up, I'll give it a whirl and post my impressions.
Members babablowfish Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 Cool! I'll stand by. Happy NGD!
Members Stackabones Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 First tune had better be Minor Swing!
Members brahmz118 Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 Congrats Samilyn. I'll be interested to hear your opinion on the difference in responsiveness, compared to regular flat-top guitars. I played a Gitane D500 a few weeks ago and it had a great 'cutting' tone -- unlike anything I'd ever heard from a dread or jumbo. Stack, thanks for posting that link. Any insight into how Django fretted chords with just those two fingers?

Any insight into how Django fretted chords with just those two fingers? I've heard that his two damaged fingers (the ring and pinky) could still fret. If that's true, then those minor6 grips shouldn't have been a problem. If he couldn't use them, I'd guess he just used plenty of two-finger grips -- which, as you know, would still work. Plus, in the classic recordings, he usually had a guitarist or two behind him! BTW, I have the Gitane D500 -- love it:love:! I take it to any acoustic jam/circle. Wish I could afford to get a D-hole nylon!
Members recordingtrack1 Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 No matter how strong the temptation--don't open that box. Even when you think it has reached the correct temperature, give it at least one more hour! Congratulations! RT1:)
Members Samilyn Posted December 29, 2007 Author Members Posted December 29, 2007 The box feels pretty warm now, so I cracked open the tape and lifted the top just a teensy bit. Another hour should do it. Minor Swing = Very cool, Stack! But right now, only in my dreams. I'm an absolute beginner at this, doing real good to plink out a smooth scale. I am also a total noob at music theory and have started working by way through beginner books to learn how to read notes and tabs. I don't even know the names of most of the chords I play. I just do 'em. Just last night, SteveO had to remind me what a "rest" is. I was trying to describe to him a rhythm and key change I use in the song "On Broadway" and I couldn't even remember the correct word to use, having just learned about rests a couple of days ago. After I played it slowly a few times, he said, "oh, there's a little rest in there." I'm fascinated by all this and I'm working hard. I'll get there sooner or later and will dedicate my first jazz piece to all my great friends here at AG.
Members mole2 Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 Well, we're all waiting here in anticipation of the unveiling. It's a great day when the new guitar comes, isn't it? You feel like a kid a day or two before Christmas while you wait for it to acclimate. lol Congratulations!
Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 Happy NGD!!! I can't wait to hear about it when you open up the box!!
Members Samilyn Posted December 29, 2007 Author Members Posted December 29, 2007 I just took the git box out of the shipping box. Now to give it another hour or so in the git box and I can unveil at last. On our budget, this was a huge expenditure, so y'all can bet I am not going to jeopardize this git by giving in to temptation. I admit, I feel just like a little kid on Christmas morning, waiting for everyone else to get out of bed! I must say, the seller packed this git extremely well. The shipping box was huge and the git box was well-surrounded on all sides by lots of cushy packing material. Very reassuring.
Members Hudman Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 Congrats! My new guitar was delivered on Xmas Eve. I allowed it to "warm up" for almost 18 hours. My wife made me wait until Xmas morning.
Members riffmeister Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 I admit, I feel just like a little kid on Christmas morning, waiting for everyone else to get out of bed! Enjoy the feeling! It is so fleeting!! And congrats on what I'm sure will be a fun new toy.......uh.......I mean........"music making tool"!
Members Samilyn Posted December 29, 2007 Author Members Posted December 29, 2007 Congrats! My new guitar was delivered on Xmas Eve. I allowed it to "warm up" for almost 18 hours. My wife made me wait until Xmas morning. LOL, Hud. I would have made you wait, too. The cargo bay of the FedEx truck was pretty chilly - probably about 45 degrees - when I stepped up into the truck to sign for the box. House temp ranges 72 to 74 degrees, 60 - 65% humidity. The git box feels room temp, so I'm thinking it's time to undo the tape and crack the box just a hair for another hour. Do y'all think I should wait longer?
Members riffmeister Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 Do y'all think I should wait longer? OPEN IT! I'm dyin' here (in a vicarious sort of way)!!! .
Members Samilyn Posted December 29, 2007 Author Members Posted December 29, 2007 So far, so good. Poked my hand inside the box - feels lukewarm - not quite room temp, but close. Mighty close! Unveiling in 30 minutes!!!
Members Tupelo Son Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 This is killing me!.......CONGRATS
Members T.B. Posted December 29, 2007 Members Posted December 29, 2007 Is it out the box already? Congrats! Trina
Members Samilyn Posted December 29, 2007 Author Members Posted December 29, 2007 She's out of the box! Here's the write up:http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1843078
Members Scott Fonseca Posted December 30, 2007 Members Posted December 30, 2007 Congrats on the guitar!!
Members Misha III Posted December 30, 2007 Members Posted December 30, 2007 PICS - PICS - PICS - PICS - PICS - PICS - PICS - PICS!!!! Personally, I'm trying to match my guitars and my cats... Those two match together: I think I found one that would match with that young lady: (yeah, a lady, only 2% of yellow cats are female) It's this one: (The black guitar is mine it goes with Plume!) The yellow kitty does match with my acoustic... but not as well as that Crafter! I can't justify another guitar right now... but I really like the Crafter. Nobody wants to buy it because of the Crafter name on it but it plays sooo well! Does my Strat goes with my silver persian??? Not really but here they are: Now, I'm waiting for your pictures Samilyn!!
Members Samilyn Posted December 30, 2007 Author Members Posted December 30, 2007 Love the gits and the kitties!! All so pretty!! I didn't know about yellow cats being mostly male, only knew about calicos being mostly female. Come to think of it, a calico will go nicely with your acoustic. I can't justify any more additions right now, either.. If I get another git or another critter, hubby would probably mutiny.
Members Scott Fonseca Posted December 30, 2007 Members Posted December 30, 2007 Pretty guitars and cats!

Come to think of it, a calico will go nicely with your acoustic. Calicos are only female! Guimauve is a calico: (And yes... she's on the table! She doesn't bother about convenience! ) I hate justifying the need of guitars or creatures!
