but sad i didn't get to see the picture
:p
it takes all kinds, i guess. even misanthropes and perverts.

You've probably seen the picture, it's the nude with her back painted as a cello (bass?), a bridge in the small of her back and strings from her neck to, well, her hiney. I'd offer a link, but I don't know where the original is.

Frankly I've always thought it fairly tastefully done and not at all prurient, but I managed to wander the streets of Florence without being offended by the statuary either, so perhaps I'm not an adequate judge of such things.

oh, i've seen that one. bass? she wasn't that fat, man. viola, maybe. ;)

anyhow, that's based off of an old photo (dageurreotype?) from the 1920's-30s, where f holes had been dodged (burned? i forget which) into a photo of a woman's nude back. so... proto-porn, or art? eor says both.

here's the write up and a link:

First, and most importantly, Samilyn, thanks for staying. I, for one, would have missed you tremendously.

Second, I happen to leave avatars and sigs on because it tells me a lot about the person posting it. An avatar is like a tee shirt - we all wear tee shirts with some special message - Boston Marathon, Hard Rock Cafe, Martin Guitar - usually something we are proud of and want to show off. If someone wants to wear a tee shirt with a nearly naked lady or one with a string in her butt - fine, you just won't wear it in my house.

And a sig is like standing on a corner and shouting for all the world to hear - tell me what you want to do to women if you want. But I sure as heck will form some opinions and they probably won't be favorable. And again, whatever else you might want to say, you won't be saying it in my house.

I'll say that again - I leave avatars and sigs turned on because it tells me something about a few of our forumites. It tells me they are not welcome in my house.

Thanks so much for putting it that way, Freeman. You are much better at articulating than I am. If those kinds of people were to arrive at my house, suffice it to say I wouldn't bother to call off the dogs at the front gate, much less let those people in!

I guess I'm just a grumpy old lady with an old fashioned idea of decency.

I do like the majority of avatars and sigs here and I'm glad to read that most people like mine.

I thank those of you who complimented me on my avatar. Actually, I tried to photoshop the stars in the pic to make them look like musical notes, but I couldn't quite pull it off, so left it as I found it.

My creep list (ignore list) is a long one and I guess it'll longer as time goes by.

And once again, I thank each and every one of you for your kind words...{{BIG HUG}}

Whalebot, thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not going anywhere. Whalebot, I never knew that you spoke for each person in here. "Do us all a favor" indeed.

I speak for everyone here, except for d03nut...he speaks for himself. All the rest of us are one homogeneous block of strict acoustic guitar players with a mutual dislike of...you. I'll do you a favor and put your a$$ on my ignore list you little troll. Sorry Samilyn, this concludes my thread jack.

Whalebot, thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not going anywhere. Whalebot, I never knew that you spoke for each person in here. "Do us all a favor" indeed. If you don't like the avatars, turn them off. If you don't like the radio, turn it off. If you don't like what's on the television, change the channel or turn it off or don't own a television. In that respect, Samilyn is doing just that. Instead of censoring, she has decided to leave. She didn't even attack a particular person. I guess I was a bit too harsh.

Abando

Abando - You are new here, so I suppose it is reasonable to assume that you simply didn't/don't understand how this forum differs from most everything else on the web. We are a pretty tight-knit group who try to be civil, non-political and mutually supportive. Whereas your remarks would be considered totally mild and non-offensive anywhere else, here they were taken as an attack on a valued forumite. I am sure that the folks here will be happy to forgive and forget and welcome you to the group trusting that you will join in the culture of civility and support.

Baba, thanks for your understanding comment. Whalebot, your last comment was very entertaining. Everytime I see a guy who looks like he could be blown over by a feather talk really tough is always a great source of entertainment for me. As for the picture, Drnihili is quite right. It was very tastefully done. I really don't know how anyone with even a little artistic bent could be offended by it. I thought it was a picture of a woman in a bikini that caused the original offense. It turned out to be something much less

prurient. I'm done talking about it. Whalebot, if you feel the need to respond once again with a "no one wants to talk to you or likes you" comment, proceed ahead. I will not respond. It feels like I'm in a chatroom. The whole thing is absurd and not something a grown man should be involved in.

There's stars? On my ancient little 15" monitor, all I see is - if I peer at it intently - little teeny tiny dots. Nice image though.

Absolutely uncalled for...not to mention kinda harsh!

I agree, there are many young kids that take part in these forums, and while those avatars are far more evident and popular in the electric guitar forum, the moderators might want to reconsider what type of avatars are allowed. The forum required you be 13 years of age to join, and I don't think some of them are appropriate for a 13 year old. They are most likely very offensive to women. If a woman put up a avatar of a man in a bikini bottom she would be insulted profusely for it.

Very well put freeman. While we are on the subject about others homes, I'd like to thank you for posting the HCAG annex. I find it extremely useful. I do really enjoy electric guitars, however, I find myself coming back to HCAG, as the maturity is far superior. Even the adults on HCEG can be very rude and distasteful at times. Not that there is anything wrong with that, they are entitled to portray any image of themselves they find feasible. I, for one, find the HCAG forum far more mature and helpful.

Do you honestly think that my Avatar is an actual picture of me? Wow. What a moron. Now I'm going to troll out for a minute. You are just aching for someone to rip into you and yes I took the bait, only because I enjoy Samilyn's posts and I'm bored. Any other time I'd let a fluffball like you blow through the forum. I'm going to continue to respond to your asinine posts, maybe it will distract you from posting any new threads or offending anyone else. That's right HCAG, I'm your sacrificial lamb. (New avatar to follow.)

Oy vey, this is not what I had hoped for. Abando, just say you are sorry and move on to a better place. Whalebot was defending Samylin. You admitted that you were a bit harsh. This could get ugly and there is really no need for it. Whale, like Samylin is a well-liked and respected member of the forum; you can't win a flame war with him nor would "winning" such a war prove anything more than a hollow victory. There is a lot to be gained here if we all just try to be polite.

I tend to think that the HCAG community can be a little TOO insular. For example, I've been reprimanded for quoting Sinclair Lewis (one of the great intellects of 20th Century America and a Nobel prize-winner, for crap's sake!) in my sig. I actually began using this quote because of several overtly religious statements (which I thought inappropriate, but didn't complain about) in others' sigs.

Although (I believe) my posts have always been either on point or humorous, I still got smacked because somebody disagreed with my supposed politics from a quote in my sig... As a result, I've posted very little here in the past month. I'm not fond of thought police, however benign it may appear. Interestingly, I also do not like to see avatars of scantily-clad women, and frequently do turn off avatar-viewing on my options. However, I think in the final analysis you have to understand that this is a community, and as such will encompass a range of individuals, opinions, and personalities. That is what makes it vital and interesting.

If folks are not comfortable with that, then they really do have the choice to gather in places where everybody else shares their opinions and opposing opinions are banned (how about Iran or Saudi Arabia?) However, I think it would make for a sterile, uninteresting conversation. I like the fact that HC contains a lot of folks who have vastly different backgrounds, opinions, politics and taste than I.

Give me a break.

I find it interesting how this has turned from one person stating their dislike of inappropriate content to "I don't like you" or "I would beat you up if you were here" sounds like a bad WB show. Now people are complaining about everything. But come on, thought police? Isn't that a bit of a stretch? There have been in this thread alone differing opinions. I have not read anyone trashing them for having different opinions. Let's bring the maturity back up. In addition, I have found this forum to be receptive and acceptive. No one forces you to post here guys, and do not attack someone for having an opinion. But come on, this "low blows" are classless. Sorry for the mini rant. :)

I adore this forum and have made a lot of great friends here.

But the "female flesh" avatars really bug me. Guess I'm just too conservative. This is a git forum, not an advertisement for Playboy.

So long, y'all.

Hi Samilyn!

I hope you stick with us! (edit: you said you will and I'm glad!) I understand how you feel about some avatars on Harmony-Central. I feel the same way, sometimes. I must admit though that I rarely see things that I dislike here on the HCAG. I see a lot of those things on the HCEG!

What I don't understand is that with their pictures of "almost naked" girls those guys aren't going to attract women... They just show off the pictures between them. They want to testify that they have a lot of testosterone but they do it so bad, so unskillfully that they're only going to attract... other guys with those pictures!!! (nothing against it but that's not what they want... isn't it!) :freak:

When I see pictures of young vietnameses it makes me think of my best friend's daughter! It leave's me with a real bad taste in the mouth! I don't like it! Her daughter is very pretty! She's a human being damm it! Not an object!

Go figure it out! Maybe those who use weird avatars/signatures are just kids and need a couple of years to understand things a bit better!

I just ignore them...

There are a lot of nice people here! That's the reason why I'm here!

I will kick all of your asses.

Provided you are all vision-impaired undernourished pacifists under 3' in height and prone to severe dizziness and leg cramps. Please also bear in mind that "all" should not be misconstrued to mean "at the same time." Additionally, my allusion to people under 3' in height is in no way intended as a slight against midgets.
