Members Stackabones Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 But this Larrivee is da bomb! I guess I like a little bling.
Members ESL94 Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 It is gorgeous! I wonder how long it took them to do this?
Members simplygoodmusic Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 A little? So much! Lovely though... I bet I could kill a vampire with that thing!
Members Samilyn Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 So intricate and lovely! I don't care for much bling, but I could certainly live with that.
Members kwakatak Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 Yeah, well I bet you couldn't do that on a slothead!
Members brahmz118 Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 John Decker, the guy who started RainSong, now makes fancy custom wood guitars. You can sort of see one of his slotheads here with inlay: He also makes these hybrid slot-paddleheads (he calls it Rear String Slot design):
Members Freeman Keller Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 Yeah, well I bet you couldn't do that on a slothead! Wait 'till you see what I have in mind for the slot on my daughter's parlor..... (it won't be anything like Wendy's incredible work, but I think Tina will like it)
Members Queequeg Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 Here's Wendy's page on the Larrivee site.
Members daklander Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 I'm not much for uber-ornamentation but some of those are great. Very tasteful designs. I'd love the eagle inlay on a guitar but would want it lowered on the headstock, one peg lower would center it better on the paddle.
Members Freeman Keller Posted January 3, 2008 Members Posted January 3, 2008 Here is where I've been getting my pearl (the simple little K, the mando and the custom pearl for Tina's parlor). Mild to wild - bring on the bling! http://www.luthiersupply.com/

I've never seen a hybrid head like that. I'm not sure if it'd "grow on me" or not. That would take some mental adjustments on my part. A good woodworker could make something like that to mount over a traditional slothead.
