This is some mighty fine acoustic playing by Bruce and Rik (from the band Triumph). An unlikely pairing but they pull it off. From the show In Session in 1981:

Very nice and very different for someone like Rik Emmett who is known here in Canada for his heavy metal band Triumph. He also can sing like Steve Perry from Journey. :freak:

Bruce Cockburn is an amazing acoustic fingerstylist and songwriter as we all know. He is also from my hometown....can you guess were? :)

that Joscho clip is just ridiculous! what a fun performance!

Oh heck yeah!!! Joscho is one who really has that Django "vibe" of insane virtuosity and great sense of humour. He really has it down!

Thanks for both clips guys! :)

I don't know... I like Joscho but that particular video isn't one of his greatest. Sound is horrid, and his playing gets better and more tasteful IMO.

But hey, thats just me!

And the vid of nuages is pretty darn cool! Here is another "different" version of that song.

In the Vocals Real Book Vol 1, there's the English translation of the Jacques Larue (originally in French, added after Django wrote the tune).

Spencer Williams added different words and called it "The Bluest Kind of Blues." Peggy Lee does a classic rendition of it. So does Jessica Molaskey (Pizzarelli's wife iirc). I dl'd both from iTunes.

Here's a page about vocal versions. :whisper:There's a pdf version available of "It's The Bluest Kind of Blues."

Mike Ferro has a whole CD devoted to vocal versions of Django tunes! Ordered!!! :)

Think I'll be adding Nuages/The Bluest Kind of Blues to my solo sets soon.

Very laid back and cool rendition. Is Rik playing some kind of Yammie nylon string!!!
:eek::)

I think it's a Takamine.

For those who'd like to play along with Rik & Bruce here's the audio only without the spoken intro.

Just download the attached MP3 by right clicking on it with your mouse and "Save Target As..."

Lot of Gypsie Jazz topics recently. I think it's a good thing.

It interresting sometimes to see Musical thread instead of "wood-strings-Martin vs Gibson vs Taylor-my guitar is better than anything-what do I have to bought" kind of thread.

I bought lots of CD and any new suggestions is welcome an it's open my mind a bit more each time.

Thanks for sharing your musical taste here. After all What is a guitar without music... wood-strings-neck-body ;)

+1 ... and add to the fact that I'm not so good at the wood-strings postings. When it comes to tonewoods, I'm pretty much a "Gee isn't it pretty" kinda connoisseur. :)

It's definitely been fun here the past couple of weeks with the GJ threads! Woo-hoo!!!:cool::cool:
