Hey there,

You may recall a few months ago, before the gypsy jazz craze (which I am by the way loving!) hit, I posted a question regarding a "cheapish" gypsy git. Well I've decided to go another way.

Rather then pay something along the lines of 800 euro for a gitane dg 255 (which is what they are going for here, and I am not willing to buy online), I'm gonna wait a couple of months and push my budget up to 2000 ish- The reason being? I'm selling all of my electric gear, and I'm dedicating myself rather strongly to acoustic jazz. And I haven't really been satisfied by any of the gits I've played (NOT SAYING the cheap ones aren't good. I've heard some bloody awesome clips of them online...I'm guessing its just the stuff we have here).

The problem with these imports is that they are all for some reason coming in from the states, even if they are made in asia. The higher end ones are often made here in europe, so I am more likely to A)find the right guitar B) get a decent deal for it.

So...the search now extends to anything I can find in that price range.

And the introduction part...

I've been posting a lot more on this forum, so I thought I'd quickly tell you who I am. My name is Yeonathan Shachar, and I'm Israeli, though I live in Rome. This forum is hitting me as really open minded, and I'm loving every minute of it.

Thanks for the intro Yeoanathan. I have you as friend on MySpace and I like your music. :)

Now onto guitars...I think you are right about getting a good or better deal in Europe since like you said the best ones seem to be made there. For $2000 I am sure you will find something very nice that you can play forever. :) I love my cheap Aria MM-20 and I was lucky even to find that since there doesn't seem to be a lot of Selmer style guitars in my area. I did see a used Gitane D-500 but the seller wants $700 CDN...which was over my budget plus a new one can be ordered for around the same price now with the stronger Canadian dollar. My biggest problem now is trying to find other like minded people who'd like to get together and play this music for fun.

Good luck with your search and when you find your guitar please let us know.:thu:

Thanks for the intro, Yeonathan. It's great to get to know a little more about everyone.

While I'm not into the gypsy jazz music, I enjoy hearing it and reading about you folks write about it. I'm sure for 2000 euro you'll find something really nice.

Best,

Bill

Thanks for the intro, Yeonathan.

Yes, I think you'll find a very nice GJ guitar in Europe that'll put the Asian imports to shame. There are so many "boutique" luthiers and small shops that none of us know about.

Have fun shopping and let us know what you come up with.
