Members postie Posted January 6, 2008 Members Posted January 6, 2008 I have a cracked barrel that holds the E string in the Machine head. Is it fairly easy job to fix and are the barrels readily available? Thanks Frank
Members Samilyn Posted January 6, 2008 Members Posted January 6, 2008 Replacing the whole thing is fastest and easiest. Also fairly cheap unless you're looking at high-end or "specialty" tuners. You can get a full set of replacements at StewMac.
Members ChiyoDad Posted January 6, 2008 Members Posted January 6, 2008 We had a discussion about this ... and some recommendations. Follow that link. I finally replaced the tuners on my Yamaha Guitalele as well so they match my Yamaha C45MA.
Members riffmeister Posted January 6, 2008 Members Posted January 6, 2008 A couple of years ago I got a 40-year-old, well-played-in CG and the tuners were stiff and creaky. I thought it might have been the worn gears or the cracked rollers. Turns out all was well after lubricating the roller holes in the headstock with some candle wax. Moral of this story is.....the cracked rollers worked fine! .
