Members allboy Posted January 13, 2008 Members Posted January 13, 2008 Does anyone make a good quality inexspensive stand for home? I'm new and looking for ideas for a stand. Would a gig, or fold up stand be better to get if I decide to take my guitar away from home? Your thoughts....
Members Cripes Posted January 13, 2008 Members Posted January 13, 2008 Your thoughts.... First off, you really need to change that avatar. I just can't get all serious and stuff with that thing staring at me. My sincerest apologies if it's you. Any old stand should do the trick. I would keep some rubber bands handy when traveling to stretch across the neck yoke. Stands can be had pretty cheap - under $20.00 - and I think I paid $14.00 for the last one I bought.
Members AugTPD Posted January 13, 2008 Members Posted January 13, 2008 Most stands are ok, even the cheaper ones. Just make sure that whatever coating it has on the points of contact are friendly for your guitar finish. Some of them will alter the finish of nitro-cellulose.
Members Samilyn Posted January 13, 2008 Members Posted January 13, 2008 LOL - Allboy, your avatar reminds me of how I feel when I have a bad hangover. What Cripes said. Any stand will do, but for more stability, I like the taller tubular stands that have a plastic or rubber gizmo that goes over the neck-hook part to help keep the git in place. Those are common at all the internet sellers and definitely under $20. The ones I have were in the $15 range. I think MF has one for $7.99. Just be sure to cover all the rubber parts with cloth. Rubber and/or vinyl is deadly to your git's finish. I usually drape a towel over my stand and have also been known to slip some old gym socks over the rubber "arms" of the stand. Tacky looking, but whatever works.

Stands stands everywhere stands, holdin my axes some are worth a grand I never pay much more than fifteen smackies for a stand and thats five dollars too much. I like the adjustable metal kind that fold up and have those strap thingies that go across the neck. Make sure that it's stable and will hold your axe. Some are for acoustic axes only and some are for both. you must adjust the neck prop correctly. Adjust the neck prop right above the body.
Members allboy Posted January 13, 2008 Author Members Posted January 13, 2008 Anyone use the Proline stands? The price is right.
Members allboy Posted January 13, 2008 Author Members Posted January 13, 2008 Good info! I thank you all for your friendly advise. Hey, what can I say.....I'm a newbee. And yes, that Avatar is a true pic of me
Members brahmz118 Posted January 13, 2008 Members Posted January 13, 2008 I use the Proline stands at work (not my gear -- at home my guitars rest in their cases). I have not had any issues with them -- no finish damage in about 3 years of constant use. The only drawback I can remotely think of is that they're not ideal for photographs. I'd rather use a base-only stand for that. But I wouldn't trust a base-stand for regular use.
Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted January 14, 2008 Members Posted January 14, 2008 I use a little Fender fold up one. It fits in my bag that holds all my gig stuff like cords and pedals etc....
Members odo Posted January 14, 2008 Members Posted January 14, 2008 Anyone use the Proline stands? The price is right. I use all Proline stands, you can get them at Guitar Center for $10
Members allboy Posted January 14, 2008 Author Members Posted January 14, 2008 I purchased the Proline from GC. It was $15.00. Looks to be made good (for the money). They had one for $10.00 that was looking kind of cheaply made.
