Been working on the neck a bit so I thought it was time for an update. If you remember from previous discussion the neck comes from LMI rough shaped by their cnc milling machine. I ordered a 12 fret short scale slot head and it comes looking like this - complete with a traditional Martin volute

I laminated a piece of rosewood and a thin piece of birch on the headstock - I had considered an ebony overlay but decided to maintain the theme of the binding which will also be rosewood and birch (which you can see in the background)

Some work with a rasp and sandpaper I have the slots (Stackabones, this one is for you)

Here it that little birch lamination. The mahogany neck will be stained redish brown to match the rose and the birch should accent the edge and the inside of the slots

The neck is way too thick - I bring it down to about the shape of my Taylor neck which should be easy for Tina to play.

Here is the action end of the bolted joint. I've put a little piece of rose and birch here too. You can just see the adjuster for the truss rod peeking out - I've been trial fitting things

and here is the neck, fretboard and truss rod. We'll spend more time talking about them in the next installment

I have a Martin size 7 I once built from a kit. It's the same shape as a slothead/14 fret D-28...

but 7/8 size (the lower bout is 14" across) I built it for my daughter but she's yet to play it. Cool decoration for her room I guess. It's pretty nice sounding with a surprizing bottom end.
