Members Grotto Posted January 24, 2008 Members Posted January 24, 2008 I was in a dollar shop and I saw a new Takemine of unknown model in both 12 & 6 string that were going for $ 150 and $100 respectively and sold as new. As I just want to have a guitar tuned to every tuning I use, I thought it might be worth checking out as the sound was OK. Does anyone have any info on these ultra cheap guitars, as I have never played Takemine?G
Members LiveMusic Posted January 24, 2008 Members Posted January 24, 2008 Do you mean Takamine? Surely you know Takamine. If it's your spelling, I suppose it's a fake. Takamine makes some good guitars, especially, plugged in.
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted January 24, 2008 Members Posted January 24, 2008 Not my favorite brand, but the price is right...check them over carefully and make sure to pick out one w/o "issues"...straight neck, good intonation, bridge on correctly, stuff like that.
Members Samilyn Posted January 24, 2008 Members Posted January 24, 2008 As TAH said, the price is certainly right. But I'm thinking they might be factory seconds or "B" stock? There's a chance they be good gits, too. Some stores like Big Lots liquidate merchandise from other stores that have gone out of business. Sometimes you find some great bargains, other times, not so great. Would be an outstanding buy if you can inspect the git and make sure it's structurally sound and plays well. At that price I could live with a ding or scratch.
Members Scott Fonseca Posted January 24, 2008 Members Posted January 24, 2008 Sounds like a deal, if they sound good, go for it!
Members burkedajerk88 Posted January 24, 2008 Members Posted January 24, 2008 good price, if it sounds and plays well then go for it!
Members DeepEnd Posted January 24, 2008 Members Posted January 24, 2008 Are you sure those aren't Jasmines? They're a low-end brand distributed by Takamine and prices start in the $100 range. If not, they're probably discontinued G-Series Takamines like the G240, in which case they shouldn't be too bad, although they're sure to be all-laminated.

Regardless, if you like it, go for it, Grotto. Ellen

Members Terry Allan Hall Posted January 24, 2008 Members Posted January 24, 2008 "Lawsuit Taks" nowdays seem to be going for SERIOUS dinero at the Guitar Shows, so I doubt that these are such... A girl I know has a LsT that is a decent knock-off of a Martin 000-18...she gave $125 (used) for it about 20 years ago and at the last Guitar Show we attended, she got a cash offer of $3K!
Members Samilyn Posted January 24, 2008 Members Posted January 24, 2008 Ya know, I'd forgotten all about the Jasmine ones. I see 'em cheap on FleaBay now and then. I don't even remember if they say "Takamine" on the headstock or "Jasmine." duh.

I've seen a few Lawsuit F400 in dire need of neck reset - obvious even in the pics - go for $500-700 on Fleabay, and those are not even the solid-top F400S ones! Now, here's a couple of sweet lawsuit Taks - a "Guild" (Tak F365MS) and a "Martin" (Tak 450S) Sorry for the thread jack. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.

I had no idea they were going for so much! I just remember seeing a lawsuit Tak at my local Guitar Center and it was priced fairly low- I just assumed they all were. Ellen

I re-read the post a couple of times when I saw the prices & figured, eh... not bad for used unknown model Taks before I realized it was new guitars. Then the price became better.
