Members Strenge
Just a quick question here. This guitar is my first acoustic, I'm pretty much a beginner at any kind of guitar but especially with acoustics. Anyway, I love the guitar so far, it really lives up to the recommendations and reviews I read. However, I'm not sure I like the strings that came on it. They were "Yamaha" brand, which I'm sure were re-branded. So partially I question whether they just are not good strings; but I also consider that they *are* good, but I'm just not used to acoustics or that they are not the kind of strings I like. They sound "metallic" and quite bright. They leave a black residue on my fingers, not sure what that is. I think I'd prefer strings a bit "warmer" if that makes sense. I realize the guitar is partially responsible for the sound, and my playing as well. That said, any good ideas for strings? Or should I suck it up and stick with them since they are better strings than I am a player
Members DeepEnd
Go to The Annex, click on "Tech Stuff," and then on "String Test". It'll get you started anyway. The black stuff sounds like tarnish. Wipe the strings down with a clean, dry cloth to remove the worst; run it under the strings as well.
Members Florida_Gator
We put D'Adarrio EXP16s on my son's FG700S, and it sounds great. They last a long time, too. Warmer (after a couple days in) than the strings that came on it.
Members EdBega
I like Elixir Nanoweb Phos/Bronze on my FG700 but do check out the string test like Deepend suggested.
