For those of you who have played at a Jam Session, this song should need no explanation....for those who haven't, a Jam Session is where people gather in a circle and take turns leading the group in a song. Anyone is invited and most all instruments are welcome. At our jams we have guitars, bases, fiddles, mandolins, banjos, harmonicas, the occational spoons or auto harp etc... I have learned so much from the group and have made some very special memories. This song is dedicated to all those, with whom I have shared time in the circle. Oh BTW...The guitar in the video is my new Alvarez MD350. I'm so enamoured with it, I'm afraid my wife will think I'm cheating! I agree that helps a lot. I will still write songs but learning other stuff is good too. Old Beatles song 1 take for the guitar and vocal...and a couple or three trys for the chorus. Thanks for any comments. Absentee Post from: garthmanTitle: Play With FireCredits: The Rolling Stones Click to Listen http://www.box.net/shared/uq2ga1bjfp garthman Comments: 'Play With Fire' first appeared as the B-side of the hit single 'The Last Time' released in early 1965. In fact the only Stones members who played on the song were Mick and Keith. Here is an excerpt taken from the Wiki entry: ' . . 'Play with Fire' is credited to Nanker Phelge, a pseudonym used when tracks were composed by the entire band, even though lead singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards are the only Rolling Stones to appear on the track. The song was recorded late one night in January 1965 while the Stones were in Los Angeles recording with Phil Spector at the RCA Studios. Richards performed the song's acoustic guitar opening while Jagger handled vocals and tambourine (enhanced using an echo chamber). Spector played bass (actually a tuned-down electric guitar), and Jack Nitzsche provided the song's distinctive harpsichord arrangement and tamtams . . .' As usual, recorded in one take with Audacity and my computer mic. I saw Doc Watson on some old TV show many years back and he played this tune. It's a classic. I didn't really know who he was at the time but I was absolutely in awe of him. This is my take on it but I hope you like it anyway. It's a one take, one mono track, kinda gommed up version, but it's got some high spots. I imaged into a pseudo-stereo sound with a Pantheon digital reverb and that seemed to add some sparkle. RT1 Absentee Post from: gthomTitle: The Red BlouseCredits: Antonio Carlos Jobim Click to Listen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwWpCY3OXNw gthom Comments: I had a different song in mind for this month, but a week or so ago I was listening to Jobim's 'Wave' album and thought this song might be a fun one to learn. There was a good tab of it by Emily Remler, so here's my take on it. I was hoping to have some better recording capabiloities this month, but I'm still stuck with the webcam or digital camera route (this is with my webcam). So, once again, I'm sorry about the sound quality.

My ultimate fantasy road trip with the person I always write songs about. Inspired also by an actual 11-day 6000-mile road trip (solo, alas) several years ago that revealed the wonders of the western landscape to me. Members FussenKuh
Another month month down and another VOM to enjoy! Title: Lonely Day Originally By: System of a Down Performed By: FussenKuh I can't say that I'm a System of a Down fan. However, there are a select few songs that I really enjoy from the band. Lonely Day is one of that select few. Maybe it's because Lonely Day is written by System's guitarist or because it shares a similar sound with The Animals' "House of the Rising Sun." Whatever the reason for liking it, I'm presenting my acoustic rendition of the tune for this month's VOM. As I didn't want to attempt to sing the song, I layered my instrumental interpretation of "vocals" over the basic rhythm complete with simplified solo. As always, it's not perfect, but, I hope someone enjoys it! And, yes, there is a little bit of "War Pigs" influence introduced into the song towards the end ;-) Chris
Members Stackabones
Not Afraid To Sing This song was inspired by a post over at the North Texas Guitar Club. The guitar is my Morgan Monroe MV-01 capo'd on the 10th fret. Recorded with a Zoom H4n. It was written and recorded in under an hour. VOM1T. Not Afraid To Sing On a humid August night A man came up to me His beard was full of knots His eyes swam in whisky He asked me for a dollar And I gave him everything He asked if I was afraid I said, "I'm not afraid to sing." On a fresh April morning A woman caught my eye Her hair tumbled down her back Her eyes were a little spry She asked me for a kiss And I gave her everything She asked if I was afraid I said, "I'm not afraid to sing." On a New Year's morning A child stood by my side His skin was bright as dawn His eyes looked into mine He asked me for the truth And I told him everything I said I'd been afraid But never afraid to sing. Members Melodeous
This is a clip of a backing rhythm I'm working on. I just got one of those Zoom H4 recorders. This is the first thing I recorded with it. The guitar is a Goodall RCJC using a K&K PWM straight into a Fender Acoustasonic. The effects are turned to Reverb Chorus with the gain at 2 and amp volume set at 3. The H4 was set on a table about a foot away from the amp. The H4 captured it pretty much as it is. I'm using fingernails and a Fred Kelly yellow (Delrin) Speed Pick thumbpick. The H4 is the way to go from now on for me. http://www.box.net/shared/fmkumoa4kf

Members Ohioarrow
Whoa Melodeous, that was sweet, I'd love to hear that when it's done. And yea, that recording was excellent, a lot more depth and range than your previous recordings. That H4 is a keeper.

Members fatback
http://vom.infocusreviews.com/index.php?p=play&id=fatback/Parchment_farm_Rough_track.mp3 Parchment Farm- Mose Allison I was going to post Summertime but I got to playing around with the computer single mic, guitar and harmonica. I had to use a second track to add the harmonica but each track was one take so I hope I haven't violated the spirit of VOM1T. So this is a real first (you will be able to tell) first time I've ever used two tracks (ever, ever) first time any one other than the family has heard me play a harmonica (only played the harmonica for about a month) and first time I've played Parchment Farm in public. (Well I only actually put it together last night) Phil So here it is - (hiss is still and issue as is volume - and timing is shhhhhhh) but I enjoyed playing it. Guitar is my Crafter TA50The Harmonica is a Lee OskarThe voice is my own. Phil

Members busby99
Here's my version of Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye, written by John D. Loudermilk, and done by The Casino's about 40 years ago. Please be advised that there are no mistakes in the song. What you hear in the middle is a meticulously planned solo. VOM1T indeed. Anyway, here it is: http://www.box.net/shared/cjiokz0gib Thanks in advance for those who dare to listen. I'm listening to a few now and will be back later to listen to the rest. Frets99
I Just got up... dang boys... this thing is already in full swing!! I wrote this in August. "She Cries" She don't want a lover, she can't send away She don't ever listen, to what you've got to say Don't need perfection, more than she already has She'll give you a ticket but hold on to her all day pass Everything's all right now She makes it day by day somehow She's got it worked out in her head But when she goes to bed chorus Oh she cries Tears falling from her eyes She says, raise me up Don't let me down Can you save me, bring me around And when she close her eyes to sleep Resolving in her dreams to keep Distances in space and time Oh Lord, give her a sign chorus
Members g6120
Well I was practicing one of my original instrumentals yesterday afternoon while babysitting my daughter. The plan was to get it recorded and posted to submit to the VOM.I just plain ran out of time and steam, so I'll have to post my latest which is a very inebriated rendition of one of my favorite Dylan songs.
