Members larry50
Never heard of a D-16M, just the basic D-16. However, the D-18 is one of the most iconic guitars in the Martin standard line, has been around for decades and is considered by many to be the baseline for bluegrass dreds. If you can afford it, I would definitely go for the D-18.
Members kwakatak
I saw this thread over at AGF and would say that yeah, the D-16M sounds like a great alternative. FYI to all: this is a discontinued model (from the late 1980s-early 1990s) that predates the use of the MT neck joint and micarta materials. It's mahogany/sitka with a dovetail neck joint. The D16M is actually closer to the D18-V with standard build specs, forward shifted scalopped bracing, (aka Vintage) and dovetail neck joint. Made between 1986 and 1991 Looks like this guitar could be a Martin hidden treasure.
