Members Etienne Rambert
Mr. Binh had a Baden guitar in his shop today. He was pretty pleased about it. He asked me if I knew anything about them. I'd never heard of them before. I know Baden is a city in Germany. But I don't know anything about the guitars. The label said it was hand-made. It didn't say where. Anyway, this one was a beautiful Maple cutaway. The back was really beautiful & I like the style of the cutaway. The hardshell case was really good too. I'm not sure what Binh was doing with it. It was brand new. Maybe he was setting it up for someone. It sounded good. But after I strummed a couple of chords, I told Binh that his Maple dreads sound better. And they do. But this was a beautiful, well-built guitar. Anybody know where they're built? EDIT: Apparently, Baden Guitars are made in Vietnam. Wow! Beautiful job on them. BUT...Binh's Maple dreads sound better. Binh might be making these things for all I know. Members Etienne Rambert
UPDATE: Apparently, an ex-Taylor exec and an investment banker hired 6 French luthiers to come to Vietnam & oversee a facility manufacturing guitars in Vietnam. I've got to find out more about this company. www.badenguitars.com GUITAR WORLD 30 Jan 2007 aden D-Style Acoustic Guitar Adam Perlmutter BADEN D-STYLE ACOUSTIC GUITAR LIST PRICE: $2,298.00 MANUFACTURER: Baden Guitars As vice president of sales and marketing at Taylor guitars, T.J. Baden helped transform that company from a small, struggling enterprise into one of the world's leading acoustic manufacturers. Now, with the help of partner Errol Antzis, a onetime investment banker and extreme guitar enthusiast, he has gone his own guitar way with a small, select line of acoustics. Baden and Antzis enlisted the service of two renowned European luthiers-Andreas Pichler and Ulrich Tueffel-and all four collaborated on the design of auditorium- and dreadnought-style instruments that are at once modern and traditional. Baden guitars are constructed at the Ayers factory in Vietnam. Yet unlike most imports-and even high-end domestically made guitars-Badens are hand-built from start to finish, with six French master luthiers overseeing the entire operation. As a result, each guitar is unique, soulful and considerably less costly than an instrument handmade in the United States... HOLY COW! Look at this! Ayers Guitars in Vietnam I wonder if these people give tours.
Members Terry Allan Hall
Played one of the uber-boxy Baden "dreads"... Felt that it was a surprisingly good guitar for finger-style, so I'd like to try out the GC model, like Mr. Bihn showed you. That's the first Baden jazz-box I've ever seen. Members Etienne Rambert
The jazz boxes are Ayers' guitars. Apparently, the 6 French luthiers are or were employed by Ayers. But Ayers' factory makes the Badens. I'm going to try to learn more & even visit the factory. It's not going to be easy. The workmanship on the Baden was really above what you normally see in Vietnam. But honestly, Binh's Maple dreads sound better.
